NC State is on my list of college choices and I was wondering if I should keep it on there or not? Is NC State a laid-back school or more fast paced? I know it is in a big city, but is the school lost in the city or does NC State make the city? Would you say it is a college town, why or why not?
Thanks :)

I plan on going there in the fall, and I’ve visited a lot. My interpretation is that NCSU is full of extremely intelligent people that aren’t pretentious about it. Most people are laid back, but you can easily choose whichever lifestyle you want. You’ll see everything from people in pajamas to girls wearing pearls. (I would advise against high heels though unless you’re going out at night. State does not have a high heel friendly campus unfortunately.)

I wouldn’t say that Raleigh is a college town. It does not revolve around State; however, it is very accommodating to the college students. The part around State’s campus makes it feel like a college town, but don’t expect to see Wolfpack spirit walking downtown unless there’s a game. But I absolutely love Raleigh. It’s not a big city, but it’s big enough to offer internships, part-time jobs, and research (RTP is amazing).

State is amazing though in my opinion. It really does offer absolutely anything you would want, and endless opportunities are available from both the school and the surrounding area. Do not cross NC State off your list!

I hope that helps!

State students are pretty laid back down to earth people. State is not lost in the city of Raleigh. The Hillsborough St. area is almost a college town unto itself. There is not a dominant social group at State…like the Greeks at so many campuses. There is something for everyone at NCSU. You don’t have to have a certain look or wear certain clothes to be accepted. There is a lot of Wolfpack pride. Grads are very loyal. My son is a State grad. He loved his four years at State and Raleigh. He misses it so much now that he has graduated. If he had to to do over again, he wouldn’t change a thing. He would choose NC State again.
