Local Atmosphere???

I'm a junior in hs and I'm currently checking out different schools. I really like a school that has that college town feel to it. Is USC or Clemson more like a college town? I like a laid back feel where you don't have to feel like you're in a rush or people are pushing you along. Which one would I feel more like at home?

Clemson is a college town. It’s in the middle of nowhere and pretty much you’ve just got Clemson in Clemson.

USC is in the center of Columbia… the capitol of the state. It’s really rather cool, because when you’re on campus, you feel like you’re on campus (and it’s a beautiful campus), but as soon as you step off of campus you’re downtown at the statehouse or shopping or something.

You need to visit both to see which you’d prefer. They both have very different campuses/feels.

I’m currently a freshman at USC, but Clemson was my first choice. I got in to both schools, visited them, and realized that in order to have the college experience that I was looking for, USC was where I had to be. Like AUGirl said, when you’re on campus at USC, it feels like it’s in its own little bubble. It’s quiet and you only see students. It’s also very aesthetically pleasing. However, as soon as you step off campus, there’s a very college-student oriented downtown with bars, clubs, and restaurants that are available whether you’re 18 or 21.

My roommate’s boyfriend goes to Clemson and has had the same group of friends since day one. He says the only option is to hang with the people in your part of campus, and on weekends when people go home, there’s absolutely nothing to do since the campus is in the middle of nowhere.

I’m slightly biased as a proud Gamecock  but I’m serious; if you want things to do and places to go 24/7, Columbia is where you want to be!

I agree with both of you. I was born and raised in Lexington and I have spent my whole life here and have no intention of leaving. I am going to be a freshman at USC next year. Columbia is such a great place with plenty of things to do. You won’t regret becoming a Gamecock! :)
