Does anyone know how to find out if you have a local meeting for USMA in your area? thanx

Get in contact with your regional admissions officer. Let him know about you and that you are interested in the academy. When I did this I was invited to a local informational meeting about West Point and ROTC. Usually they are for Juniors and Seniors who started the admissions process and scored well on the SAT or ACT, but if you are interested they will send you an invitation.

In our area, there is usually an ‘All Service Academy’ information event held (I think) in December when the cadets are home and available to volunteer their time to talk to potential students. As DolCi said, it’s best to let your regional admissions officer know that you are interested so you can be added to the email notification list for upcoming events. This is how my D was notified about the SLS program. The notice arrived in December with the link to the SLS application. She applied, and she is there now as I type these words.

There will also be invitations to older high school kids (mostly juniors) in the spring. They recieve an overview of the admissions process and learn the importance of deadlines, taking the SATs and ACT early (and at least twice), etc. WP superscores the SAT and ACT meaning that they take the best Math, Critical Reading Writing score. The kids are also told if they are medically disqualified, that it’s not necessarily the end of the admission process. It’s a lot of good information.

Hope this helps.

I believe you can also sign up through the USMA’s .edu website. There should be a place to enter your information to be put on a mailing list.

We received an average of one invitation per year from sophomore through end of junior year. Two of the informational sessions were done by a local volunteer liaison officer, but we also attended one a little further away hosted by our USMA regional admissions officer late last spring (end of s’s jr. year). That was probably the most informative session as this individual worked directly with admissions. He was able to answer some of our individual questions with more thorough answers as he has actually worked with the the candidate files for our region.

We got info about meetings in our area from two sources:
- postgrad center at the high school
- website of congressman/senators

HOw do you get in touch with your regional admissions officer?

You’ll find a phone number or email address at [United States Military Academy at West Point](http://www.usma.edu) and click on Admissions.
