So today I learned that one of my two daughters( both strong applicants ) was chosen for a scholarship that only three will receive. I am grateful that she did and appreciate that the recognized this daughter over the other ( it is her last semester and last time to apply, as opposed to her sister who has a long way to go with her higher education )

I feel sorry for all of the applicants who probably thought they were a shoe in when you compare to last yr. , but the truth of the matter is, my husband and I are active members in the organization, large supporters with donations and attend the fund-raising events...as opposed to many others who just submit the applications.
Trying to explain to the daughter who did not receive that it is politics, but she feels slighted :(

Do you really think your involvement in the org played a role in your Ds selection? Perhaps I’m naive but I thought unless the submittals were only permitted for members that it was an even playing field.

Actually , they are open to the children of members as well as others in the perimeters of the zip code, so " yes " to answer your question…the criteria was merit based as well , and I know that my children’s apps are the strongest…I know of one other strong applicant , whose father is a member and also the grandson of strong supporter of the organization…I will be willing to wager that he is a winner as well.
I don’t think this is that unusual for a community based scholarship at all…lots are restricted as to ethnicity as well as card carrying memberships of various clubs and intended majors.
