<p>Alabama grad Marillyn Hewson named president/COO of Lockheed Martin

<p>BETHESDA, Maryland – University of Alabama grad Marillyn Hewson, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Electronic Systems, has been named to succeed Chris Kubasik as the company’s president and COO.</p>

The announcement came after Chairman/CEO Bob Stevens informed the board of directors of his plans to retire as CEO after 25 years of service with the company. </p>
<p>Kubasik, 51, will succeed Stevens, 60, as CEO effective Jan. 1, 2013. Subject to election by shareholders and approval by the board, Stevens will remain chairman through January 2014.</p>
<p>The board also elected Hewson, 58, to succeed Kubasik. Her successor will be announced later.</p>
<p>Hewson was named executive business area in January 2010. In serving the company for 29 years, she has held leadership positions on the corporate staff and in three of the corporation’s four businesses.</p>
<p>Hewson earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Alabama. She also attended the Columbia Business School and Harvard Business School executive development programs. </p>
<p>She is on the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration Board of Visitors, chairs the Sandia Corp. board of directors and serves on the board of DuPont. Hewson is also a member of the Association of the United States Army Council of Trustees.</p>
<p>Lockheed Martin employs about 1,200 people in Huntsville.</p>
