Logistics of ACT score reports?

So I've already been accepted into one of my safeties, that's great, but I've been waiting to finish up all the other school apps I want to send in until the September ACT score is out and sent to my schools. The only thing is I'm kind of confused as to how that all logistically works and was hoping someone could help me. Say I send in my application to a school with rolling admissions who already has a previous score, how do they know that I took the September ACT? Say a deadline for an early action date is October 15th and the writing scores haven't been processed yet, how does the school know there's a report coming?

Hopefully a parent or someone who understands this better than I could clear this up. I figured the September ACT would be enough time to get reported to all my schools in plenty of time (SAT does it all within a month) but now that I'm reading more into the ACT website I'm getting a little nervous and confused.
