I'm assuming RL writer directly mails RL to a school in a sealed envelop. Correct? How do you know whether they have mailed it or not? Unless you keep bugging/annoying them?

The other question I have is let's say you're applying to 10 schools, You can not expect recommender to write 10 letters. People won't do it.

I'm confused by the logistics of the whole process. Some schools have their own template.

Is there a way you can ask 2 or 3 people to write you a recommendation letter, which you can make copies and send it to different schools?

I may be making it sound harder than it is.

If you are applying as a fr, any schools using the CA will let your teacher and HS GC upload their LORs electronically ONCE and then you attach it when you submit your application to schools.

If submitted electronically, it will show on your CA account. If sent hard copy, ask them to notify you via email when the letter is sent.

No problem electronically. If hard copy, they can make copies.

You provide the teacher with whatever forms they need.

You may need to ask a couple of teachers for LORs, depending on how many the schools you are applying to require. However, you cannot make copies and send. If sending a hard copy, the teacher should seal the LOR in an envelope and then sign across the seal to assure that it has not been tampered with, they can then give it to you to send.

Somewhat ;). Talk to your HS GC to find out how your school deals with LORs.

Can teachers see which schools you apply to?

No, they upload it but don’t have access into your account.

Does the LOR have to come from high school teachers only or it can come from elementary, middle school teachers as well? The thought here is your elementary/middle school teachers may not know much about how you have performed in high schools and colleges are more interested in knowing how you have performed at the high school level?

Another question, do you address the letter to a specific school? if it is, To whomsoever it may concern letter, you can provide 3-4 envelops to each of the writer, ask them to write a letter, seal and sign it and get it to you, you can then mail it to any school you want. This will ensure everything reaches in time and you know what’s going on with your application process.

If you are applying as a fr, any schools using the CA will let your teacher and HS GC upload their LORs electronically ONCE and then you attach it when you submit your application to schools.

What is CA? Once LOR is electronically uploaded to CA, will you able to view it and print it? Otherwise how would you attach a copy with you application?

CA = Common Application

I could answer your individual questions, but I think it would be much better for your understanding of the college application process in general and LORs in particular if you did two things:

Go to the Admissions page of college websites and see what they ask for as far as LORs (note, there is no one-size-fits-all).

Go to the CA subforum here on CC and read some of the threads to get an idea of how it works; also go to the CA website and download the various application forms to see what is required.
