I'm a high school senior planning on attending UT Austin fall 2009.
Does anyone know if it will be difficult balancing marching band and school work at the same time? I'm majoring in unspecified business and I don't know if my schedule is going to interfere or how often the Longhorn band practices.

I don't know from personal experience, but my sister tried football band for a bit, and it was way too time consuming. She did do basketball band because you don't have to do time consuming marching practice and what not. It just depends on whether you have good enough time management skills. You should be able to handle it first year, but you might have more trouble later on.

My boyfriend is in LHB and loves it. He is a freshman and it has helped him meet a lot of cool people. During the fall, the band practices Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for 2 hours and then they have rehearsals before the football games. The different sections frequently hang out and they all have different social activities too. they do have a lot of fun. Second semester is more low-key. Everyone is required to do an ensemble, but that practices less... i think two times a week. I think it is a manageable time commitment if you want to do it.

I might consider auditioning for the basketball band or an ensemble. If not then the Longhorn band, but I'll probably figure out my plans before I graduate high school.
Thanks for all the info

How hard to get in the football band, very little information about band.
