Longhorn band

My brother is interested in the longhorn band. He’s doing moderately well in hs band but no superstar. How hard is it to get into the longhorn band, or other bands at UT? He plays oboe and (during marching season) percussion pit.

This is probably irrelevant by now, but it shouldn’t be too hard for him to get into LHB trying out on percussion. I also played oboe in high school and did percussion during marching season. Had a about a year of marching experience plus three years in pit when I tried out for LHB this past summer. Since LHB doesn’t have a pit, I’d recommend he try for cymbal line, which isn’t hard to get on to compared to other drumline sections since it’s really big (there’s 12 of us). The audition process and materials are on the LHB website. Also mentioned on the website is the Big Flags section, which is pretty easy to get into and is lot of fun and also where the majority of the double reed players in the band (all four of us haha) reside during marching season. Not sure how hard it is to get into the concert bands, but LHB members automatically get put in concert bands in the spring. Overall, LHB is a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend him to try out for it!

@cymbaloboist good to know - thank you!
