Does anybody know anything about this place?
How far is it (in minutes from UT) on the shuttle?
Are the majority of residents from UT?
all opinions are welcomed
THANKS

Definitely take what I say with a grain of salt, as I don’t live there and I’m just basically parroting what I’ve read on CC and other sites - but I’ve read that it’s in an unsafe area (many car break-ins, robberies, drugs etc), that it’s loud with people partying all the time, and that management is abysmal… I think it’s known for being one of those places that you should avoid.
Plus, it’s on Riverside, and I’m not a native Austinite but I know Riverside traffic can be unbelievable sometimes (but then again, so is the traffic in most of Austin). But like I said, grain of salt and such.

[ApartmentRatings - Longhorn Landing](http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/TX-Austin-Longhorn-Landing.html)

It’s in riverside. That’s not where you want to live. It’s in a significantly sketchier part of Austin south of the river.

there are definitely nicer parts here than riverside, but it’s a long street… and it really all depends on what end you live on. I live on riverside and never had any problems with anything, there are gated communities with frequent security patrols like anywhere else, just gotta look for them. You do feel like you just stepped foot into little mexico though.

The Ballpark would be a better choice from the reviews I’ve read. Longhorn Landing is just really really awful from some of my friend. Something about 3 people getting shot/killed like two years ago there or near there. Really not safe there…

Just live in West Campus, then you don’t have to go through the long shuttle rides to get to campus, or really anywhere in general. If you have a 7pm study group at a friend’s apartment in West Campus, or in the library, do you want to walk there in 5 minutes, or wait up to 15 minutes to ride a shuttle for another 15? And then if it’s too late to catch the shuttle home… how do you get back?

Plus all the good parties are in west campus, and most people hang out around there. You’re really segregating yourself living in riverside IMO.

Understand this that when you have a large influx of college students, crime tends to increase in those areas. West Campus has had several robberies and murders and I know quite a few people who have been mugged coming back from campus.

Riverside is no different, however, police enforcement has been stepped up. On Fridays and the weekends, cops have the enitre area under control so as long as you don’t show off and act stupid nothing will happen to you.

As for Longhorn Landing (I lived right across it and had several friends who lived their), here’s a breakdown but don’t take my word for it. Go check the partments out yourself.

PROS:

*Not as loud as you think as you can request a unit away from the “party areas”

*E-bus is right outside the apartment if your into partying on 6th

*Cheaper with all utilities paid (I think its $399 per person for three people/two baths)

*Lots of older students who live their so you will find students who are quiet and study

*Close to the airport (few minutes away)

*Fast Pizza Hut delivery ;)

CONS

*Far from campus as you will need to take the bus from school back and forth

*Has lots of Asians (for some people this is a con)

*Does have lots of parities, although its not that bad

*Is in a area with significant Mexican population (again this is a con for some)

Check out Apartment Ratings and also talk to people who have lived their and then make your decsion.

Good Luck!

Ok guys i have some good news I guess. LOL
my lease i sent to longhorn landing was sent back due to me using the wrong address. LOL
so was this a blessing in disguise? If so what housing options are still available?
!!!PLEASE HELP ME fast!!!
Thank you

Dobie and the Castilian are pretty good options. I toured the Castilian and thought it was alright…Dobie probably very similar. If not, try to look on craigslist for someone looking for a roommate in an apartment. Also the Ballpark as I’ve mentioned already has solid reviews and pretty cheap.

you can get pretty good deals from quarters if you catch them on a good day. right now, if you’re getting financial aid they’re advertising that your rent will be lower.

I think Riverside should only be an option if you are strapped for cash, to be honest with you. Live in West Campus or a dorm near UT.

And even then, you can get cheap apartments in North Campus along Red River, for example. It’s closer because the traffic is nowhere near as bad, and the UT shuttles run more frequently up there. You don’t have to cross the river/downtown to get to/from campus. I-35 during rush hour is a 2 level parking lot near campus and downtown.

Riverside really is not a good option at all IMO.
