Look at my classes for next year! (10th grade)

Hello, guys. Course selection is fast approaching at my school. I am fairly sure of my schedule but I just wanted to get you people's opinions on it first. Before I tell you my 10th grade classes, let me tell you what I took this year. I got all A's so far this year so this is a pretty good schedule for me.

This year(9th grade)
PE 9, AP Human Geography, Chemistry, Pre-AP English 9, Algebra II Plus, Spanish 1
Explanation: APHG is the only AP class we can take as freshman, PE is required, you're supposed to take Chemistry when you take Algebra 2, we can either take pre AP or regular English 9, and yeah, pretty much.

Now here comes the important part. My schedule for next school year. Please review, comment, or take notes if you feel it necessary...
Next year(10th grade)
PE 10
AP World History
AP Biology(If the counselor lets me)
AP English Literature and Composition
Accelerated Pre-Calculus/Calculus AB (semester each)
Spanish 2

So what do you think? Do you have any suggestions? Is it okay to take AP Biology since I've never taken a high school Biology class before? Remember to be honest!

Your ninth grade schedule looks pretty good. :)

I’ve never heard of someone taking AP English Literature and Composition before AP English Language and Composition, but I guess it depends on the school. I don’t recommend taking AP Biology without any previous knowledge of biology. I would consider either taking a high school biology class or take AP Chemistry while studying biology independently (since you sound very smart). Then, take AP Biology doing your junior year (if your counselor permits). I also think you should consider taking AP Psychology (if offered at your school). I took it as a freshman, and it was pretty interesting.

P.S., Remember to have fun during your sophomore year!! ~ Buena Suerte

There’s no reason why you would have to take AP Language before AP Literature. My school only offered Lit and everyone seemed to be fine.

AP Biology basically reteaches everything you would learn in a regular biology class, except at a higher level. So I think it’s possible to do well in it without taking regular biology first, but most people benefit from having seen the material before. Maybe you could look through a prep book or a textbook and see how much you understand.

Does your school have honors classes for Spanish?

Next year(10th grade)
PE 10
AP World History–might not want to take at the same time as AP Bio because they’re both very time consuming.
AP Biology(If the counselor lets me)–TONS of memorization. don’t expect to float by because you’re smart. put in the time.
AP English Literature and Composition–ive heard theres TONS of reading involved, but if you actually do all the required work it’s not bad.
Accelerated Pre-Calculus/Calculus AB (semester each)–im in H precalc right now. Im getting about 8 pts lower than my H Alg II grade. it’s pretty difficult, but if you put in the work you’ll be okay. I’ve heard AP calc is easier than H precalc, at least at my school.
Spanish 2–easy

Hmm, you guys are saying I shouldn’t do Biology. I know this sounds stupid but I kinda don’t want to be in a regular Biology class with a bunch of 9th graders next year, mostly cause my sister might be in that class! AP Lit is normal at my school for “advanced” 10th graders.
@halcyonheather There is no honors at my school. Only regular, AP, and IB. And I’m not that good at Spanish anyways. I guess I’ll look at a prep book for Biology over summer if I decide to do AP Biology. Since I might do IB, I want to do AP Bio in 10th grade so I can do HL Bio in 12th.

If your school lets you take AP Bio without having taken Bio I, do it. However, it is the rare school that doesn’t have the intro science course as the prereq for AP. I wouldn’t sweat taking a class with 9th graders, In my school there are a lot of classes that have different age students, and no one thinks twice.

I will also say AP Bio, AP WH, AP Lit together is a HUGE workload and will seriously impact your ability to do meaningful EC’s.

Try taking bio h online

I know of some people in my Algebra II class who are 10th graders and are taking all of those classes. They never seem to complain, I guess I just don’t know them that well. I guess I’ll do what tomatox1 said and do Biology online during the summer. That is, if the counselor lets me. She said there are only a few kids each year who do Chem in 9th and then AP Bio in 10th and they have to get teacher recommendations. Course selection hasn’t actually started yet, I just know it’s coming up, so I’ll ask the counselor when course selection comes around.

Are you able to get out of PE 10? If you’re doing a sport/running/etc outside of school, then maybe you don’t need to take PE, and thus would have another slot for another class…

Of course, I’m probably saying this way too late…

Some states (like New York) require 4 years of PE.

Aw, I didn’t realize that.
