I'm currently taking 4 AP courses, and I'm getting A's in all of my classes.. except AP World. Honestly, I'm not interested in history and my major on college apps is Biology/Pre-Med, but I took the class because I wanted to challenge myself. However, after getting a B- in it on my most recent report card, I'm seriously considering dropping the class. (No matter how much I study, history and I just never seem to click)
I'm looking into top 25 schools, so I'm seriously stuck. Would selective colleges rather see a dropped class on my transcript but a higher GPA, or a lower GPA but a more challenging courseload? Or would they sort of disregard the course because I'm not going anywhere near history as my major anyway?

If it shows that your class is dropped on your transcript then I would say to stick it out and keep trying. If it doesn’t then I would say go for it and drop it.

Perfect world history “clicks” and you make all the detailed connections. If it doesn’t “click” MEMORIZE! If you can memorize the necessary bio material and think you’ll be able to do pre-med, you should be able to handle AP World. Almost all if not all top schools require or strongly recommend 4 years of each core subject, so you might eliminate some options by dropping. I would double check requirements before doing that.
Quote from Duke:
“We recommend four years of English and at least three years of mathematics, natural science, foreign language, and social studies. We also encourage you to enroll in advanced-level work in as many of these areas as possible. We generally expect students to enroll in five academic courses per year, and if a student does not take four years in a particular subject area, it should be replaced with an academic course of equal rigor.”

I think dropping a class would look way worse than a B-. Plus, as long as you’re getting As in your other classes, it seems like a B- in an AP class is really nothing to worry about. They’ll see that you’re challenging yourself in an area you don’t even care about, so I don’t think it’ll really hurt you if your grade there isn’t as great as your grades in the areas you like.

and @saintfan, I’m taking 7 academic courses this year (an extra science cause I want to major in sciences), so I guess if I do drop World, I’ve already “replaced” the course anyway? But do you recommend I still drop it then?
