Got our official invitation to Parents Weekend yesterday.
This made us feel like we could actually do something to help our son.
Is this event something they will be interested in, or is it just for the parents' sake?

i couldnt stop thinking about that time. i could not wait to see my parents and that was probably the best weekend at this school last year. it was also the first time we were aloud to leave campus besides the mets game so yea, your kid will look forward to this time most difinately

That's good to know bvwhiteboy - we booked our trip yesterday...

Would this be a good time to bring cell phone, ipod, camera, etc for our him, or should that wait?

ya that'd be a good time to bring all those things

Okay, first time postee....first time KP Mom. I have a son at the "other" Navy school...but this is a whole new experience and I'm reading the posts everyday to make sure I don't do something wrong to get my Mid. in trouble, like address mail to "Plebe" Candidate! I can see her doing 100's of push-ups to get her mail as I published that address to all our family and friends. But I digress...

bvwhiteboy...so she can have her cell phone and ipod as of Parent's w/e?

she can have her cell phone right after indoc but is only aloud to use it on sundays. my parents gave me a phone card and i used that and a pay phone for my first few weeks because they can take the cell phones as punishment and as for the ipods i know i had that right after indoc but i kept it in my soccer locker and only used it when i was on the bus travelling to and from games. i think they are aloud to have them also if they go running in great neck, but other than that they arent going to be aloud to listen to music until acceptance day so it might just be a good idea to wait and bring the ipod parents weekend just to be safe, unless she asks for it sooner

It means alot to have someone show us parents "the ropes."

what are so things that cadets and parents, you think, would like to do on their first weekend off? is their a lot of time to hangout? i think we only have sunday evening and most of mon correct?
or would just anything off the campus be fun? im sure they are ready for a change of scene, no?
:)

you only have some time sunday night and the admiral last year added seven hours to the original return time but yes im sure your boyfriend will let you know what he wants to do. i was happy with going to the mall and getting a few things, eating a real dinner at a restaurant, seeing a movie, then going back to the hotel and watching the chiefs game, but im sure your boyfriend will just be happy being with you

LFWB just wanted a steak at the Palm and to see Spamalot. After that he was just content to sleep in a real bed as long as he wanted.

I thought they have off from Saturday's muster 30 minutes after the football game ends, all day Sunday, and returning at 6pm Monday. Did I read the schedule wrong?

awesome those are great ideas...his parents are coming out too so i wont have him all to myself hehe...oh my goodness im so excited now!!

i dont remember if i slept in a hotel on saturday night or not, i think the upperclassmen were aloud to leave saturday but i think i had to stick around until sunday for some reason, maybe i had a soccer game or something but i dont remember, you could be right in that he gets saturday night off also, but i dont know

Juliemm, I did the same thing. I read somewhere that we were suppose to address the letters Plebe Candidate. And then when the first letter from him came it was returned as Candidate. I took the hint not to address them that way anymore, but I can estimate he got atleast 10 pieces of mail addressed that way.

I suppose he has really increased in upper body strength by now.

I better e mail his friends and tell them the correct way to address thing.......

Is there a posted list somewhere of things that we should and should not bring?

What about his acoustic guitar? I'd like to bring that as a suprise if it is allowed. I might bring it just so he can play it over the weekend even if I have to take it back home with us

yea he should be able to have a guitar, a bunch of kids had them last year, he just has to go to the company commander and ask for a piece of paper that says hes aloud to have it. and when you address the letters now it is going to be plebe candidate. they are just considered candidates during indoc, but now they are going to have their own mail boxes and it wont matter what you write because no one will see their mail anymore but them

Not too long ago, I saw a segment on THE TODAY SHOW about the Intrepid Museum that is open at Pier 86. It looks like a nice way to spend a couple hours at least. The website is...www.intrepidmuseum.org. I was disappointed to see that the Museum will close October 1, 2006 while the Pier as well as the Museum undergo reconstruction, renovation. It will remain closed till May 2008. Just an idea for a way to spend Sunday or Monday of Parents' Weekend.
