Looking at the registration sheet which was just posted, here are a couple questions hopefully some of you can answer. Does the $30 registration fee for adults include everyone visiting, including siblings, or just parents? Do the P/C's get to eat with you at the Friday night dinner? Thanks in advance!!
4thCo Dad

Where is the information posted that you mentioned?

Parents Page. they've merged all the INDOC photo links to one link, and posted the registration form.

Dunns...I am not sure about the $30 registration covering everyone. I will check and let you know. Last year the Friday night dinner was in Delano and yes, you do get to sit with your Plebe and eat in the ever popular Delano. It's actually quite a nice chow hall (ok you Mids...don't start yelling at me) and your family will enjoy it. Make sure to buy tickets for the Lunch. That was really nice as well. AND OF COURSE DON'T MISS BEAT RETREAT!!!

for all plebe candidate parents- whatever you do- go to the beat retreat!
it's incredible. worth the trouble. quite inspiring.

Thanks suzan!

Last year, my son just wanted to get into to the city for a great meal, he had no interest in eating the food at Delano. The Beat Retreat was good (but very warm). Remember---Enjoy your Plebe, if you have a hotel room they will most likely want to go there and sleep. They will want you to make a run for the local Rite Aid. Ask them if they want a sleeping bag! My son was one the DI's for 4thCo. I spoke to him this weekend briefly and he was tired and hoarse. In the end he was very proud of "his kids". They all worked hard.
Good luck to all see you at parents weekend.

What is Beat Retreat?
New 1st company Dad

The thing with Friday night is that the Plebes cannot leave campus, so you are pretty much stuck with eating there. Saturday night is when we took our boy into the city for dinner and hanging out. Sunday we rode to the beach because he wanted to just relax, but did not want to "sleep" away the visit with us. Good luck parents!!! See you at Parent's weekend.

What would be a good beach to go to on Sunday?

We did not know what it was either until we saw it last year at Parents' Weekend. For all the "ribbing" that Band Co. endures, they sure prove themselves at Beat Retreat. The level of precision and talent that they exhibit in their drills is remarkable. They marched back and forth and in and out forming amazing patterns, playing their instruments and making it look effortless. The bagpipes (NYFD ?) added to the solemnity and history of the event. The PCs marched with flags from every state in a brilliant finale. Sure it was hot and crowded (try to get there early and grab a seat in the bleachers up by the open windows) but well worth it. Kudos to Band Co.!!!!

We went to Jones Beach because it was close. Threw the frisbie and just walked and talked. Also, the liberty is "usually" extended to later at night, so the Plebe's don't have to be back until around 9 or something like that. Let's hope VADM Stewart is feeling like granting extra liberty this year too.

It is hot & stuffy but worth every minute... It's awesome! Don't miss it! Our Mid was too late to sign up to carry our state flag but he did get to carry the American flag, right next to our state flag... he waited 2 hours outside the building until it was their time to march on... we were fortunate that last year a lady filmed a home video of Beat Retreat and sold copies... Mid got to see it when he was home for Christmas.

Band Co. does an excellent job! And the history and the bagpipes... you need to be there...

We are making our reservations for Parents Weekend. Has anyone stayed at the Hicksville Days Inn? Red Roof Inn in Westbury? Any suggestions? Thank you!

I was able to get a room with two queen beds for $98.00 per night with a AARP Discount. Yes I have joined AARP to get the discount and no snickering out there!

We have never stayed there yet so cannot give you a opinion yet.

See you all in September,

CPASteve

We staye at the Red Roof Inn in Westbury when we dropped off for Indoc. Nothing to special but it was clean and quiet. We were next to an exit door and worried it would be loud. No problem and are going back Parent weekend. Don't forget to mention K.P. We had to show a copy of his orders to get discount and were told we could this time too.

Last year, we tried the Red Roof Inn since it was new. We did not really care for it. It was clean, but very bare for three people staying in the room. We went back to a hotel close to the Roosevelt Mall which I think was the Hyatt or Marriott which is on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. Some other friends like the Garden Hilton (I think) which also is not far from the mall but to the east. A year between stays is so long to remember the names.

Buy maps and a GPS will help also. Names of the major streets change two or three times.

The parent's page has a list of hotels and a link in the past on this site had suggestions about where to stay and eat that was very good. Maybe someone that posts all of the time will know the link.

Thank you for your help!

I stayed at the Hicksville Days in for graudation this past June and it was actually pretty nice. It does not look like much when you drive in, but, the rooms were large, renovated and clean. :)

How far is the Hicksville hotels? Do you need a rental car to get to and from USMMA?
