Looking at "My UC Berkeley Costs", but having a little trouble understanding

Hey guys,

I apologize in advance if this a simple question but i really want to make sure i understand this and not make any assumptions

*My UC Berkeley Costs *
Fees $10,866.00
Health Insurance* $1,522.00
Books and Supplies $1,314.00
Living Expenses $17,270.00
Other Expenses $28.00
*Total UC Berkeley Costs $31,000.00
My Gift Aid $21,700.00
My Net Cost $9,300.00 **Parents Share $0.00
Students Loan And Work $7,778.00
**Total Resources to Meet My Net Costs $7,778.00 *

Total Resources to Meet My UC Berkeley Costs $29,478.00

What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that my parents do not have to contribute anything but i have to contribute $7,778.00 through student loan and work? I am a spring admit, so why would my cost be this high?

Also, how is this different from blue and gold oppurtunity plan? Thanks

Bump. A little help would be appreciated :D

this is random, but how does the health insurance work? so we get to use the medical center and stuff and get prescriptions for free?

well your parents can contribute how much ever or little they want, the fa package is just the suggestion…your net cost is what you should look at, so it will cost you $9,300 to attend. You can have up to 7800 in loans / work study, i think your parents contribute 1500 to your education, the FA package was wrong in that sense

Since you’re a spring admit, for the 2010 - 2011 academic year, your net cost would be half of everything, so just cut all those figures in half (cost, loans, family contribution)

We have the EXACT same financial aid package!

Bumping this thread because any clarification would be helpful.
