Looking at transferring one last time...suggestions?

Hi,

I’m looking to transfer one more time. I want to get into accounting (probably do tax law), so what would be some good programs to apply to?

Right now, I’m looking at:

UNC

UVA

UMich

UCLA/UCB (those are long shots though because I’d be out of state)

University of Oregon (it’s my state school)

University of Washington

Northwestern, Emory or NYU (that’s a dream basically…suggestion as to which one(s) though?)

1 or 2 other california schools

Cornell? Don’t know

?

Any other suggestions as to where to apply to? I really want to get it right because I transferred once (from Texas to my state school), and I don’t feel my new school will offer me enough opportunity. I liked it a lot at Texas, but initially I was pre-med, and I wanted to save for med school. Now, I want to do accounting or tax law, and I need to go to a good school, so what are your suggestions. By the end of this term, since I’m still pre-med, my GPA is probably going to drop to a 3.3, but I’m looking to kick major ass next term since I won’t have the pre-med stuff anymore, and can hopefully bring it up to around 3.6 or 3.5 if I get all As and take 15 credits. So also I was wondering if there is some way I can explain my bad second term grades (this term…it’s looking really, really bad) on the app.

thanks

if your going to be applying to transfer for fall '09, schools will in all likelihood not see your grades for next semester…with a 3.3 youre going to need to lower your expectations a bit…some of the schools that you listed are waaay out of reach for you…i don’t know how strong your ec’s are, but just based off of your gpa the only school that isn’t at least a reach on your list is u of oregon…important to set realistic expectations for yourself or your going to end up dissapointed

some more realistic options might be (again, i don’t know how strong your ec’s are. always very important): tulane, u of florida, u of maryland, loyola, towson, trinity, u conn, fordham, maybe bucknell, case western

Well my high school record was decent and I got a 3.7 last term in pre-med classes. It’s just that this term I’m struggling. Like in high school I got a 3.9 UW, 4.2 W, and a 30 act a well a being vp of a couple of clubs so could that help my case

if you are a sophmore applying for junior standing next year, your hs record will have minimal, if any, importance

what are your college ec’s? Mind you, most competitive applicants to the schools you listed have very good ec’s, being the vp of a couple of clubs in hs isnt going to be a boon to your ap. as much as it is expected

your most recent term will carry more weight than any other semester. You are free to dismiss my warning, but it does not look like you are setting yourself up for a successful xfer process

You don’t think Oregon/Washington are his safeties/matches? What California schools are you considering?

i stated with the exception of oregon…washington might be a match although OP did not state her/his ec’s or hs stats so its impossible to know
