I applied to U of Arizona, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, UCLA, UCSD, UCB, UC Davis, UCSB

but looking back i shouldn't have applied to ucsd, and ucsb b/c i never wanted to go there

and i wish i applied to USC (stupid decision not to, i love that school, but my family couldn't afford it- but there is always loans), Arizona State (another back-up/opinion), UIUC (just for the hell of it, family in Illinois), and maybe some other out of states.

What chances would you have made to your application list?

The UC application process makes those extra applications so easy that I don't think you really made a mistake in applying. There are six months between the end of the UC deadline and the time when most seniors choose their college...so much can change in that time about what you are looking for in a school.
The private college applications are different, I think, because you are specifically choosing each school and should have a good reason to apply to each.

No changes. DD has a good group. She applied to most private schools in CA, her preference is to stay in-state. She resisted applying to any OOS school that is less well-known so she ended up with only 3 private schools outside of CA(not HYP).

i'm pretty happy with the schools that i applied to. The only changes I would make would be to apply to a couple more urban schools and a couple of LAC's.
