So I've definitely looked around, but seeing as I don't actually know the schools outside of their statistics, it's all a little overwhelming. I have some criteria, and I may in fact be quite picky.

-creative and passionate student body, not stuck-up or cliquey
-doesn't need to be in a big city but if not the town must have something to do (concerts, night scene, natural beauty, etc)
-must also be strong in sociology/anthropology
-have at least a decent male/female ratio, if a women's college, at least some male interaction nearby

So far the schools I have been looking at have been Whitman, Warren Wilson, and Occidental, though I don't know if I would actually like any of them if i visited.
Help?

Check out Colorado College, Beloit, and Bryn Mawr. I don’t know how strong each one is in the variety of art you want (Studio/Painting? Art History?), but they seem to fit your other criteria.

As a reach, if your qualifications are strong enough, you might consider Brown’s joint degree program with neighboring RISD. That is probably the strongest fine arts - liberal arts combination there is, but admission would be very tough.

Agree Williams has an excellent art department (both studio and history) and more or less fulfills your other requirements. It’s very selective, but they do like artists.

I’d also look at Wesleyan, Conn College, Skidmore, Kenyon, Hamilton and Smith. All have good art departments and good academics.

Be sure to submit an art portfolio with your application.

GPA: 3.98 (Got a B in freshman geometry)
ACT: 30 (I might retake, but probably not)

Classes taking next year:
Limnology&Oceanography/Astrophysics
Latin Am. History/Women in American History
Calculus BC AP
Spanish 5 AP
Advanced Art
US&World Issues/Art
English Lit AP

Extracurriculars/Accomplishments:
-this summer i lived in Honduras for 6 weeks with a host family working on community development
-i have travelled to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota twice for volunteer work
-Last year I won a scholastic gold key award for my painting
-Last year I also won a competitive poetry prize in a creative writing festival
-I am active in theater, have gotten large roles in past productions
-Film club member
-Played JV Soccer for 2 years and am running cross country this year
-Founding member of Gender Studies club
-Volunteered teaching kids musical theater for 2 summers

And thanks for all the suggestions! I don’t know if I’d have a shot getting into Williams.
The type of art I like to do is drawing/painting, it’s always been my dream to work in some sassy magazine someday, doing art or whatnot.

qllk, you “have a shot” at any college in America. There are no guarantees, of course, so make sure you have a balanced list of reach/match/safety.

LACs will read your entire application. You need to put a lot of thought into the supplements, essays and recommendations and assure that they reflect who you really are.

I like the idea of submitting a comprehensive art package: portfolio, essay, statement, recommendation from an instructor or mentor, resume that lists classes, accomplishments, relevant travel opportunities, 1 or 2 (maximum) media articles about you.

In addition to your art portfolio you might consider putting together a theater package.

Also, not LACs, but strong in art: Yale and Brown.
