Haha, I guess snow isn’t TOO bad. Thanks for the suggestion!

What about Penn State? Is that a school I could get into or no?

Or University of Pitt?

Maybe, but it’s out of your price range.

Well considering it’s in the home of the Steelers, which is our family’s favorite team, he may be flexible lol!

Why are you all of a sudden giving up on medical school???

Well I mean, if I really don’t have a chance then there would be no point to try…
You pretty much have to be really smart to get into medical school. I want to, but I doubt I could.

That’s not the spirit! Of course you can.

Hey, you knew premed and med school was hard before I pointed it out, right?

There are usually tons of extracurricular activities and entertainment to do at colleges than studying all the time or going to football games.

To give a rough idea if you can get in somewhere, compare your stats to the common data set for that school. You can see if you are in range or totally at the bottom.

look at UAB in birmingham. you would qualify for automatic merit aid probably about 10 k per year. against a total cost of 28K for oos…leaves you with 18 per year to pay or financial aid. campus is urban, 11K undergrads…26% AA. home of a top 30 med school (with many med programs in the top 10) campus is surrounded by 5+ hospitals so lots of opportunity to shadow, volunteer. Very strong school for sciences and anything med related. Can’t help you with the heat part though you can pm me for more info if you like, son attends there.

What is your M+CR score? I know that you’re going to retest.

Haha! Yes, I knew med school was hard. Very hard. But even if I try, I know I may be going up against some of the smartest kids in the country. It might not even be worth it to try.

My score would be 540(CR)+500(M). I know, super low!!

The reason for such low scores is because it was my first time and I didn’t prepare for it. O the math portion, I wasn’t allowed to use my calculator and I have always had a hard time doing math by hand or in my head. I am trying though.

You may want to consider taking the September 21 ACT. The registration deadline is August 23. You still have six weeks to prepare if you started now.

Thanks!!! I am going to apply as soon as I can!

San Diego State, Fresno State, and San Jose State all have pretty good FBS football teams.

Cal Poly has a great FCS football team.

Florida State might be a good option if you raise your scores a little bit. Nice weather, good football and I think pretty cheap OOS

Ok guys, I took all your suggestions into consideration!! Thanks so much to whoever replied! But…I think I know which school(s) I want to go to and those are Penn State-University Park, University of Pittsburgh-Main Campus, University of Oregon, LSU, MAYBE University of Alabama. Do you think I even have a chance if I apply really early and raise my SAT to a 1800-1900 or I get a minimum of 27 on the ACT?

If you need a recap of my stats:
-3.54 weighted gpa /3.5 unweighted
-1660 GPA (plan on retaking)
-Out of state (from California)
-Black female
-So-so, very average ECs (V.P. of Science Club, Co-founder of branch of science club. Youth membership leader of my town, Volunteering at many fundraisers and events, job shadowing in the hospital, member of BSU, Medical Academy at school, etc).
-2 honors classes, 1 AP class (this will definitely hurt me, but I’m still going to try)

Not taking cost in to consideration. We may just pay full tuition without aid.

* LSU, MAYBE University of Alabama*

??

Why LSU, but “maybe” Alabama? Alabama would be better for a Calif student; it gets more students from all over the US.

LSU is horribly maintained, looks like a mess. Alabama is impeccably maintained, drop dead gorgeous campus.

I just thought LSU would be easier to get into haha!

Also, do you think it is easy for a person from California to adjust to these schools?

Bump! More answers would be helpful
