I recently cut Rice from my college application list because I'm concerned that the climate difference may not be a good match for me (I'm from the Midwest-- I like to see some snow!). However, now I'm a little concerned that my college list is unbalanced as far as reaches and "matches" go. I feel like I've been staring at college books for way too long, and I'm having trouble distinguishing if I'm looking at schools that would be suited for me, or if I'm just going around in circles.

My other match level schools are WUSTL, Notre Dame, and Boston College, so I'd like another university somewhere in this class.

My criteria:
-In Midwest, New England, or Mid-Atlantic region (the furthest south I'm willing to go would be the Missouri/Virginia line)
-Have an undergraduate business school or the opportunity for a business certificate
-I'm not a huge fan of big public schools-- 6,000-12,000 students is my ideal, but this isn't that important
-I want a campus feel (not like NYU)
-I'd like to be in or near a city
-I want the feel of a liberal arts school, but with pre-professional programs
-I'm not into the "party scene," so I'm not interested in places with an overwhelming drinking culture

Any tips? I know that there are search engines out there, but I feel like they either go too broad or too narrow.

I can’t pay 60k/year if that’s what you mean by full freight. I’d ideally like to get tuition down to 40k/year between financial aid and scholarships.

I see that you have been in the search for a school that would ideally be under 12,00 students. I attend Marist College and it has about 5,500 undergraduate students. Located in Poughkeepsie, NY we get the beautiful view of the Hudson River in our backyard! It is about an hour train ride into the city, which calls for lots of weekend adventures with friends. Marist has a small campus and feels like home right when you enter through the gates. Its breathtakingly beautiful and I believe that it has that “campus feel”. It is a liberal arts school and has a really good business program. It’s definitely worth checking out. Good Luck with your search! feel free to contact me at my email Lindsay.Benanti1@marist.edu

My son is a freshman at Northeastern and is loving it. It has a campus feel with green space but is right in the city with everything it has to offer. He’s a Chemistry major, but loves the wide variety of courses you get from a full-fledged university. It also has a business school.

With your stats you’d likely get a decent merit package from Northeastern, and will get credit for a lot of your APs (there is a 32 credit max for AP, though). You would have a shot at the Honors program, too, which has some nice perks.

Good luck with your search! You should go out for a visit and see what you think! We had no idea that we would find Northeastern so appealing until we went out for a visit.
