Looking for good pre-med programs

I'm currently a junior in high school and my goal is to get into a prestigious med school. I know of two ways of doing this which are 1. Getting a bachelors degree at a prestigious college and then applying or 2. Doing one of those integrated early acceptance programs that guarantee you acceptance to a med program. Now for both of these methods i'm aiming for the top programs. Does anyone have good lists for programs that fall under these two categories?

What are your stats?

I don’t know of any elite med schools that have an early acceptance program. I’ve seen them at “good schools,” but not prestigious schools. Maybe others know of some.

Where you go for undergrad for pre-med is going to depend mostly on…

1) your stats - GPA and SAT/ACT score

2) how much your parents can pay for your undergrad education.

3) borrowing very little for undergrad, if you’ll need to borrow for med school.

So, what’s your situation? :)

I think (s)he means like the PLME at Brown or HPME at Northwestern. both of these programs offer a combine B.A/M.D program in 6 or 8 years or something like that.

elite med school early guaranteed acceptance programs:

Northwestern HPME (7 year track)
Brown PLME (8 year?)

of course getting into these could be as difficult as getting into harvard and may require extensive research experience…

haha xargon beat me to it…

Thanks…Forgot about Northwestern’s…didn’t know about Brown’s.

How is Brown’s accelerated, if it takes 8 years?

Or is it just a guaranteed admission if certain criteria is met?

You have some major misconceptions about admissions to Med school, you should spend some time on the Multiple Degree Programs, and particularly the Pre-Med Topics subforums.

Tufts University School of Medicine offers an early assurance program for eligible students at participating institutions. The institutions currently participating in this program are: Tufts University, Brandeis University, Boston College, College of the Holy Cross, and Northeastern University.

“my goal is to get into a prestigious med school”

The goal is great, but you will be fortunate to get into any med school. :)

“Getting a bachelors degree at a prestigious college”

This is useless without top grades and MCAT scores, which is what are needed from a non-prestigious college. ;)

Tufts is a good school for premeds but the med school is pretty average so I don’t think that’s what the OP wants.

Brown is a good, but certainly not elite, medical school. To be an elite medical school, you need to be part of or affiliated with elite hospitals, since the last two years of medical school consists of clinical training which occurs in hospitals. Ditto for medical school affiliated residencies, fellowships, etc. Brown doesn’t have its own hospital, and its affiliated hospitals are at best mediocre. Not a single one is ranked by USNWR.

Northwestern is also not generally considered an elite medical school although Northwestern Memorial Hospital is certainly much better than Brown’s affiliated hospitals.

Bonanza knows what he is talking about. As always.

I.e. Elite hospitals, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Mass General Hospital, etc… DUMC, New York Presbyterian, Barnes Jewish, etc…
