I wouldn't worry about the volleyball game. We went to a HC volleyball game a few weeks ago, it was in a small old gym and I don't think there were more than 20 people in the stands. Basketball, Hockey & football may draw a crowd, though.

The Holy Cross men's basketball team won the Patriot League title last season and went to the big dance (NCAA tourney) so they get big crowds for basketball.

^Agreed that HC might be a good match, but the surrounding city leaves a LOT to be desired.

"Bryn Mawr and Barnard are excellent top 30 LACs and are slightly more obtainable than top 10 Swarthmore, Wellesley or Haverford."

As someone who had a daughter accepted at Wellesley but only waitlisted at Barnard, I think this deserves some comment.

For the record, here are US News' LAC selectivity rankings from the 2007 edition:
Haverford 6
Barnard 9
Wellesley 11

As to the selectivity differences between Haverford and Barnard, based on the data I'm looking at, your term "slightly" is indeed the operative phrase, though the word "trivially" would be more accurate:

% accepted
Haverford 26%
Barnard 27%

mid-50% SAT Range
Haverford 1290-1470
Barnard 1290-1450

US News selectivity rank of the other two schools mentioned:
Swarthmore 4
Bryn Mawr 29

I agree that Worcester (Holy Cross' location) is a gritty old industrial city but it is part of the Worcester Consortium Homepage | Colleges of Worcester Consortium (COWC) that includes 13colleges including HC, Clark, and WPI. Also you are only 40 miles from Boston and Providence and the school offers free bus service to Boston and Providence on Fridays and Saturdays.

Lancaster isnt too far from Philly btw.

Lancaster is only an hour from Philly (mapquest says hour 25, but I think it's less, and I live in the area). It's 2 1/2 hours to DC, 1 1/2 to Baltimore, etc. Plus, Lancaster has decent stuff in the town (mall, box stores, movie theaters, clubs with indie bands, Chipotle, etc.) that makes it liveable.

Plus, you do, I assume, realize that hardly anyone majors in "pre-med." About half med students major in sciences, the other half major in the humanities.

Heard some good things about Villanova which is near Philadelphia.

Toured Holy Cross today. Very hilly campus. The physical plant is extremely impressive. Loved the historic feel of the buildings and the Greco-Roman architecture of the various buildings. Lots of ivy. The library main reading room, main dining hall, chapel were awe inspiring. Also went to the basketball game this evening and the basketball arena was sold out for the Hofstra game and HC won. Wild crowd and lots of school spirit.

tufts is better than holy cross

Holy Cross has a lot of rabid basketball fans. Two busloads of students made a 12 hour one-way bus trip from Massachusetts to Columbus, Ohio for the NCAA Division 1 basketball tournament last March and took over the place!
