Looking for guidance/leader/messiah in college chances and searches

Hello! Im a 17 year old White Jewish female from Massachusetts whose guidance counseler refuses to guide her, so i would like some help.

In my Freshman and Sophomore years i had very good grades, almost all 90+

This junior year i took AP bio with my yearly average being an 82
AP United States History with an 87
AP English literature with a 90
90+ in math, latin, advanced chorus, ect

My SATs are bland at best, 710 english, 750 writing, 500 math.
Will having such a stark contrast between my verbal and writing scores in comparison to my math scores be detrimental to the admissions process?
I'm still awaiting my AP scores and my SAT II scores, where i took History and Lit.
I'm in the top 15-20% of my class with a GPA of 48/298
I have ample Extra Curriculars mostly concerning volunteering at my temple, working with Children and programs to help prevent violence. I also held 5 jobs this year, and have held 4 jobs for the past three years.

Next year i'm taking AP music theory, AP english, AP European History, AP latin, Pre-calc, and Madrigals, which is a kind of accelerated music program.

I'm thinking about Emerson, Brandies, Clark, Mcgill, Sarah Lawrence, American, University of Chicago, UVA, UNH, UNC ect ect.

Are these schools too competitive for my grades? Can you think of any other not too massive schools that would match with my grades and a girl with a quirky personality?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. seriously. I'll buy you a cake if neccesary.

how about skidmore?

yeah...this is racist but um most jews and asians i know suck at bio but rock at the other sciences and math.

ha, no i guess that Biology is just another hurdle that jews will have to jump, along with that entire wandering in the desert and just being generally unlucky thing.

I actually looked at skidmore, and i dont think it was really for me. A little too uptight and pretentious for my tastes. Or at least thats how i found it.

um what are u talking about for bio? I got like an average of a 92 in AP Bio, and my lil sister got an average of an 99 in AP Bio. And I got a 5 on the exam, so that was sort of racist.

I'm sorry, that was a joke. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I also never knew that being a jew was being part of a race. I thought they were a religion. oops!

That math score will hurt you at any college, possibly do some practice sections and raise it?

That number of jobs is very interesting, I'd suggest you talk about some of them in your essays. I'm quite impressed by the number. =) I haven't looked at most of the colleges you listed so I can't help you there. =P But for UVa.. if you raise that math score by 200 points.. I'd say you're almost a match. Otherwise you're reaching, but it's not a huge reach.

Emerson-match
Brandeis-reach
Clark-match
McGill-reach/no chance
Sarah Lawrence-match
American-match
Univ of Chicago-reach/no chance
UVA-reach (out-of-state)
UNH-safe match
UNC--reach/no chance

Your list is kind of odd--there are no slight reaches out of all the schools you listed (Brandeis is the only one close)--and the only safety/safe match is University of New Hampshire.

I would look to reduce the reach schools (particularly drop Chicago and UNC), add two slight matches, and add one safety.

P.S. I disagree with melli's comment about UVa--only because you are out-of-state. I'm not sure melli realizes that getting into UVa from out-of-state is much more difficult than from in-state. But because it's one of the better schools on your list, it's probably one of the reaches I would leave on the list--particularly if you can get that math score up.

Best of luck.

Actually I don't how how much less difficult it is to get in in state. =P I'm a bit confused about my in state or out state issues, but my friend got in out state with similar stats to hers.

UNH is a safety... but definitely not for quirky people in my opinion. It's also huge and seems like a pretty big commuter school (all I remember were the parking lots).

Look into Hampshire. It's in Western Mass and is a match for you... and definitely very quirky. Plus you have the benefit of the 5 college consortium with other Amherst schools. Bennington College and Marlboro College are VERY small schools in Vermont, but again, very quirky. St. Michael's in VT is probably a safety.

Brandeis is a reach but I know people with worse SAT scores than that to get in... You have a chance there but it is a reach. I'm going there and had a comparable SAT (higher math but a smidge lower English) and was below their average, but I also had 8 years of foreign language which was my "hook" in a sense. I would try it, but it's still a reach.

I don't think UVA or UNC are very likely due to your grades, especially out of state. UChicago is a reach, but it is possible to write yourself into it on the basis of your essays. Visit if you can manage it; it is not for everyone.

I also really like Hampshire for you. You might also look at Bryn Mawr, and College of Wooster (in Ohio).

What are you thinking of majoring in?

"I'm not sure melli realizes that getting into UVa from out-of-state is much more difficult than from in-state."

I was under the impression that melli applied to UVa from Taiwan...

logisticslord = white supremacist?

I am an asian and I got an 800 in sat biology. I know it doesn't mean much, but at least it shows I do not suck at it.

My background's wayyy complicated but I wasn't an international student. I'm a US citizen thus counted as an American student. =)

hikaru, i agree with you. biology was the only science i got an A at... :) not all azns are maths/sciences freaks you know.

Okay, melli, now it makes some sense.
