Looking for ideas with a 3.9 GPA as a Junior

So I just received great news, my gpa after 3 semesters of college is going to be a 3.9+ (probably a 3.91/4 or somewhere around that). Nonetheless, for me it is a pretty big accomplishment considering my weighted GPA in high school was a 3.33/5 and ACT a 29. I went to a prestigious public high school, and while socially it was fun, the classes were rigorous and tough. I never took any AP’s.

I have decided I want to send out a couple of transfer applications for fall 2017 (start of junior year). I’m not 100% sure if I want to stay or transfer, but it is something I want to consider. Right now, i’m going to a unranked Catholic liberal arts college in New England. I’m preferably looking to stay in New England, but am open as my parents cover the costs and would support me wherever I decide to go.

I made a thread a few weeks ago, but as of now i’m just looking for ideas/places to explore etc.

Appreciate it & Thank you
RJ

Do you want anything else in your destination institution other than “it’s ranked”? As a junior, you should have an idea of your major and what opportunities you are seeking that your current school cannot provide.

How high up the rankings do you want to go? Elite schools typically have few spots for transfers (check the common data set) and are not going to completely ignore your high school record (though they will weight your college record more).

Also consider: will the destination institution accept all your credits or will you end up taking an extra year to graduate?

Hi,

Thanks, good questions all around. In terms of credit, I definitely want to go to one that will honor all my credits (or enough to be a junior) (should be 60, or 16 credit hours). My school is unranked (think liberal around 1000 undegrads + 1000 grad students). Major is undecided, but something in the humanities most likely. I’m looking for all suggestions across the board in terms of schools because the program I am in is weak, so most schools will be a step up.

I know elite schools are very tough to transfer in to, but I am certainly willing to give some a chance if someone believes that I could get in.

I could PM my school if anyone is interested, just send me a message.

Thank you

I think your best bet is to go back to the typical college guides like Fiske and Princeton Review and see what interests you. Then look at the Common Data Set for transfer chances and go from there.

I would also read course catalogs and find a major where you are excited to enroll in upper level classes when you get to wherever you go.
