Looking for information about Grier School, PA

Thank you in advance to anyone who can share insight on Grier School! Our daughter loves this school “on paper,” but we have not visited and will not be able to do so. I have read @SculptorDad ’s very helpful posts about his daughter’s positive experience, have read the reviews I’ve found online, etc., but it is very hard to send her to a school she hasn’t seen when she has another option that we have visited that she likes.

A little about our daughter: she is strong academically and has been accepted to Grier’s Elite Scholars program. We would love to learn more about that. She is particularly interested in Grier’s science program, and we’d love to learn more about the teachers and facilities.

Drama is an interest of hers. She loves performing in plays, but is not a singer or dancer, so she enjoys watching musical theater, but wants to learn more about acting and drama.

Fencing and archery are Grier sports that particularly interest her. She also is interested in riding lessons, but not necessarily varsity team riding.

Location and weekends. We live in Florida and have never even been to Pennsylvania! Insight would be much appreciated.

Art and music. Daughter takes flute and cello lessons but is not part of an ensemble. She loves art and drawing, but is mostly self taught. We know art and music are signature programs at Grier. Would she be out of her league or able to participate comfortably?

Culture/spirit of school. Is it warm and friendly? Supportive? Is the international community well integrated with domestic boarders?

Facilities. Are they up to date and well-maintained? How are the science labs? Classrooms? Dorms?

How is the food?

I would be so very grateful for any information anyone can share. We do not know anyone who has been to this school and while we have had wonderful interactions with school admissions and administration, and a board member/alum, we are, frankly, desperate for all the information we can get and extremely anxious about not being able to visit. Please feel free to PM me or respond with anything at all you know. Even if you just know of an acquaintance’s daughter who went there . . .

Thank you!

Calling @SculptorDad who documented his daugter’s journey at Grier. If he doesn’t respond, you can search for his threads/comments while you wait for others to comment.

@southernfemmom : you should PM @SculptorDad if he doesn’t show up.

The wife of our pastor, who recently completed seminary herself, graduated from Grier as an international student probably about 15 years ago. She’s not a recent alum, but I think she’s an authentic person who lives by her ideals. If you want to e-chat with her, send me a DM.
