Looking for math tutorial centers in dallas

I am in geometry and i wanted to find a place to help be study algebra 2 so i can test out of it and take per-caluclus. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Testing out of Algebra 2 can be TRICKY. It’s a pretty full course with lots to learn, and it almost all builds. So a weakness in chapter 2 will come back to haunt you in chapter 5 and 7 and 9.

Have you spoken to your high school guidance counselor? What does he/she recommend???

@bjkmom nope, i thought about it this morning and i wanna do it. My guidance councilor will say im doing too much. I just need a place to teach me algebra 2. I have all the packets they did last semester and i can ask the alg 2 teacher for me. Now i just need a teacher to show me how to do it all.

That’s my point. It’s a difficult course, even when it’s being taught by a competent professional.

For the typical kid, it’s going to be VERY difficult to self study

@bjkmom it doesnt matter to me. I can do it.

Good luck.

I’ve posted a million threads about this because I wanted to do the same thing, I can’t help you with finding a place in Texas but I’d suggest looking at some of the things I’ve posted and responses I’ve received. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. I’ve actually thought about making a thread full of resources and information I’ve gathered about skipping courses since this is a pretty common topic, but I think I’ll wait until I’m in the algebra 2 class so I can say if my self-study would’ve covered all the material.

Skipping should be doable if you’re a good math student, but I cannot emphasize enough: LEARN, DON’T MEMORIZE. I’m certain you could pass whatever tests/classes you need to skip the class, but if you don’t have your material totally down, you’re going to struggle later. I highly suggest looking at proofs for various theorems you’ll learn.

Also, don’t wait for the summer. It is not uncommon for me to spend several hours a weekend on math, it’s actually become such an ingrained habit that I don’t think I could stop. It would be better to spread it out over a week but maybe not realistic to do so. Allow a lot of time to review before your precalculus class starts.

I actually need to skip precalc instead of algebra 2 (it took months to get to this conclusion) due to some credit issues, but I’ve already taught myself a ton of material xD. If your school does trig with algebra 2, maybe you should look into skipping precalc. Otherwise I wouldn’t suggest it, because it seems to be really common for people to struggle with trig even if they have a proper course.

You should also think about why you want to skip the course. Do you want to be able to take more science courses? Reach a higher level of math? Is the higher level going to make you run out of classes and force you to take math through a CC?

CC can only give you generic advice, because we don’t know you in real life. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Different learning styles are different for everyone. Be sure to get solid foundations in algebra 2 and know the material thoroughly.
