Looking for Radar Detector Suggestions.

Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone here uses a Radar Detector in their vehicle? I was thinking of running a setup of a Uniden R7. The Uniden is a long-range radar detector with directional arrows. I was on the way back home to my home state and I was only relying on Waze. That wasn’t such good idea because I pretty much blasted past all the speed traps at least 15-20MPH at my regular cruising speed. Luckily I wasn’t pulled over but I don’t know about the incoming tickets. Well, at least I got back home 3 hours shorter than normal.

Thanks in advance to everyone’s suggestion.

Edited original post.

Doesn’t your fancy schmancy new car have speed limit detection? If not, trade that sucker in for something that does.

The better thing is to adhere to the posted speed limits. Many navigation programs also have THAT.

You also need to check whether these are even legal in your state. They are not here.

I believe it’s a violation of TOS to discuss ways to facilitate breaking the law.

Well…jammers are illegal by federal law. Is this device a jammer?

I already checked with the Moderators guys, Laser jammers are the ones against the law, not radar detectors. And to answer @thumper1 , yes it does have a road sign detection system and it is useful when I’m around speed cameras. Don’t worry guys, I’m not here to break the law just trying to save my wallet from the penny pinchers.

I might not be good at math or physics but how does going 20 miles faster save you 3 “hours” in driving time? :watch:?

If you are speeding (and looking for ways to not be caught) you are breaking the law. Period. Don’t speed. The only thing worse than a cocky driver is a cocky relatively new (young) driver.

My spouse works on the highway. Members of road crews die every year because people don’t think the speed limits apply to them. If you don’t want a ticket, don’t speed.

Well I mean one time I was on a road that was straight with no one on it and it had a 45 MPH limit on it… a completely straight road… I’ll admit, I might have gone a little over 45 MPH but it surely saved the trip plenty of time. Did empty the tank out quicker than normal though.

And as Jeremy Clarkson famously said,

“Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly stopping, that’s what gets you”

And to answer @Knowsstuff it’s cause I always end up beating the rush hour traffic if I have my cruising at double the speed limit. Like for example, my college is around 500 miles from home. If I average 90-100MPH cruising speed, I’ll get home in 5 hours rather than the usual 8-9 hours. Hell, I’ve yet to beat my uncle’s record time of 4 hours and 35 minutes. Then again, he hauled some real speed in his V12 Mercedes. I’ve only got 4 cylinders! Not exactly an easy feat lol.

So there is a genetic link to dangerous speeding.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

One might argue that radar detectors are useful in giving a reminder to the driver to adjust his/her speed to safe limits, particularly on stretches where the speed limit changes.

90-100 mph is not safe for the driver/passengers or for other vehicles on the road. AFAIK, since NV and MT have reimposed speed limits, there is no section of the country without a speed limit, and certainly not one that is 90 mph.

Therefore, since the question is basically asking for assistance in breaking the law, which is not the purpose of this site, I’m closing.
