Not my area of experience, but you should ask you question on the msuic majors forum. I have seen previous postings about music ed.

Music Major

Best music schools depends upon whether you mean "music theory", "musical performance", "vocal performance" or "musical theatre".

Some good schools are the following, but like I said, they may be good at one or two of these, but not necessarily at all 4

Julliard--good for most all (the one exception)--but best for music theory in the country
Oberlin
Univ of Cincinnati
Indiana Univ at Bloomington
Boston Conservatory
Lawrence Univ
NYU
Pepperdine
Stanford
Brandeis

I'm not much of an expert on this, so you really should check out the music forums on this site.
UCLA
UCSC

I don't know which are the good psychology schools--sorry.

UCLA has the #2 ranked psychology graduate program in the country. It's music is also pretty good for a big state school. I don't really think many schools can specialize in both of those, much less for a person to do both of them. For music, I'd stick with Julliard or, to a lesser degree, NYU. For Psychology, I'd go for Stanford or UCLA.

You can only major in instrumental performance or composition at Juilliard and then only if you're God's gift to either. They don't offer theory or education degrees. I think you should look into USC, as all of the programs you mentioned are solid there. IU, UC, and BC are also great.

thanks guys. I'll check out the music forum.
