Looking for the best college in the US for English/Theater double major...

Location/Price/Size/etc. does not apply. I merely want to know what would be the best college for me, as an English/Theater major. I want to know what has the best education value, or the one that looks the best on job applications. Either way.

So far, I know Yale University would be great for English, but I don't know about Theater. But that's all I've got, really. And Juilliard is perfect for theater, but I'm not sure about English.

Help me?

edit: By the by, I'm still in high school now.

What is your goal in pursuing this double major? And no, Juilliard wouldn’t even offer a double major that includes English. It is purely a conservatory, though students do have to take some liberal arts classes. :)

Yale would be the best as it has an amazing theater program to go with its english program

I think you need to be more specific about your educational background and long range goals to get helpful answers…

There are sooooo many good BA Theatre programs where you could double major in english, that more information will help people narrow it down.

Definately Sarah Lawrence. They use the third system, meaning you take three classes from three seperate concentrations each semester. However, within your theatre third, you take more specific classes like acting, voice, movement etc… So that leaves two thirds of your schedule to pursue other areas like English. They have a very strong theatre department, however you will not get the intense conservatory training as you might get at say UNCSA or CMU. It sounds like it might be a good place for you. When I toured the school, all the prospective students had to go around and say what they were interesting in. EVERYONE except me had more than one interest (mine was just acting), so it sounds like that might be a good environment for you to be in.

NotMamaRose: I’m unsure whether I want to focus on english or theater, so I’d like to do both until I have it all sorted out. Either that or I’d like to have a career that incorporates both. Or… a career in one, a hobby in the other… basically, I’m keeping my options open, and I’m greatly interested in both.

KatMT: I’m a sophomore in high school. As of now, I have a 4.0 GPA, I’m in several clubs relating to English, I’m going to join the drama club next year, I’m going to do the school paper as well as the same clubs, I volunteer usher at a local theater, I’m in a summer acting program, I’m going to get a job, and… well, hopefully I’ll do well on the SAT and ACT! I can also get shining recommendations from several of my teachers. Does that help? I don’t know what my long range goals are yet. Something in acting/directing or something in editing/writing or a mix of both… maybe being a critic or a journalist. Who knows? Anyway, that’s why I’m open to even the most prestigious schools.

travis: I’ll check it out!

I would suggest the liberal arts schools for you. Bard and Bennington may be good fits.
