Well, I'm black and I want to get to the crux of a big issue here on CC, how much does race play a factor in admittance to an elite college? I'm looking for URMS w/ there SAT score/ GPA and which schools they got accepted to and which they got denied from.

My son was a recruited URM at Cornell. He was definitely told that his grades and scores needed to fall within the range of students at Cornell. He needed to show his transcripts before being accepted into a minority weekend event.

Fred, I'm not comfortable giving out my son's private information. but, I do suggest calling the individual schools and speaking to their minority recruiting department and they can help you with this more than we can. Good luck!

hey! I'm a black female freshman at cornell right now! As far as stats go, my SAT scores were not great at all!

M: 600
V: 610
W: 670

my SAT II's were even worse! They were both 560 or something around there! I don't remember exactly because I did not want to! lol....

on the other hand, my GPA and ranking was pretty high! Along with my extracurricular's and watnot.

GPA: 3.85
Ranking: 6/420

I had tons of extracurriculars including varsity cross country, varsity swimming, varsity track & field, church youth group, national honor society, hospital volunteer, tri-m music honor society, spanish honor society, etc.

um, I applied Early Decision....was deferred...and then accepted Regular Decision.....I've played the piano for 13 years so I sent in a CD of my music as well....I wrote a very interesting essay that had a weird twist to it which I guess was great! lol

I think that basically covers me. Basically, Cornell looks at more than just SAT scores, as you can see. You really have to take your talents and work with them. My SAT scores were pretty low compared to other applicants so I tried to make my application stand out by including a CD and writing a "stand-out" essay [it involved finidng a centipede in my room ;) ]

If you're extremely sure you want to come here, apply ED. I've heard it helps! Basically, do the best you can! Don't stress about it! I always think if its meant to be, it will happen :)

there's a thread on this called "urm's unite", but don't get confused with affirmative action. It happens so that there will be more minorities in a school but that doesn't mean that the urms accepted have lower test scores and gpas then other white or asian applicants
