Looking to edit a College List

So I have constructed a list of colleges with my parents and I am looking to add/remove some colleges from the list. I am looking to do Business/Accounting in college.

Here's the list:

University of Florida
University of Maryland: College Park
University of South Carolina
University of Connecticut
University of Massachusetts: Amherst
Pennsylvania State University: University Park
James Madison University
Ithaca College
Florida State University

University of Florida and University of Maryland: College Park are definitely reaches but I am going to try!

Questions: what is your academic profile?
where do you live?
which ones do you like the most?
Is financial aid an issue?
What are you looking for in a school?
Does location matter?

Not knowing your stats I can’t recommend much, but I can say that the state flagships all have good business school. Really all these schools are solid.

State of Residency - New York
GPA - 86
SAT - 1120 (Out of 1600)
ECs - FBLA (Public Relations Officer), Film making club, Track (Captain), Golf (Captain)

My favorite is University of Florida but I know I really have no chance, but I like Penn State and UConn also. I am looking for a rather large school that has a football team, I am a HUGE football fan. Location does not matter at all. Now talking about prices, it should be below 45k (including Room & Board)

Thanks!!

If you can do better on SAT, then I think you have an alright shot at Florida
If you look at florida, another reach would be UMiami
Take off Ithica and JMU if you are a huge sports fan, they don’t have great sports, and neither is any better of a school than the others on this list.
Other schools include:
Texas A&M-Very strong school in many categories including business (great football team)
Clemson- similar to U South Carolina
Ohio State- is also pretty strong, more of a safety
Most flagship Universitys will fill your needs, so check out a bunch, and see which ones have aspects that appeal to you.

No offense, but to be competitive for smith you’re defffinitely gonna have to raise your sat and gpa. My friend applied to smith and was denied with a 3.76 unweighted and a 1270 on the sat outta 1600 and were in state; and to the guy above me^^ Texas a&m
would more then likely not happen with those stats outta state, I was weight listed with higher stats

I agree look at USC

I went to a College Fair and visited the Clemson stand and I asked the lady at the stand what the “Average Grade Point Average” was and she said a 95…I was like no chance for me here. Ithaca is on the list because I am pretty sure I can get money from there and my Uncle got his MBA? there and he is now a Vice President at NASDAQ wheeling in the money. JMU is up there because it is cheap. I was thinking about Ohio State but the places I choose are places I would live when I get older and I really can’t see myself in Ohio. Thank you very much though!!

Smith? What are you talking about haha. I know I need to get my grades up but I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. Smith College? Is that what the Business School at UMass is called? Have any other suggestions though?

There is no way that clemson average gpa is 95. That would make it an unweighted 4.0. Looking at their SAT score and rankings (which I consider a tad more accurate, because colleges find ways to twist around GPAs) Clemson has 50 % of its kids top 10% of HS, and 75% top 25%. Sat middle 50 percentile range is from 1140 - 1320. I agree it would be difficult to get into, but if you can boost your sats it wouldn’t be too bad. It would be easier than florida for example.

Also I didn’t know how low OOS admissions were to TAMU. That would make it much harder.

I guess I didn’t research Clemson enough but I looked them up on this thing I have from my school where it show you who was accepted/denied/wait-listed from colleges and only one person out of 7 have been accepted and they had a 93.7 GPA and a 1230 on their SAT, also someone was wait-listed who had a 89 GPA with a 1300 on their SAT. (Scores out of 1600 clearly). So, I really don’t know my chances. The other 5 who were denied were right around my level. Well, it’s worth a shot!

Definitely apply to Clemson, if you have a A-/B+ average and a decent class ranking and SAT score, you should have a shot at getting in!

Pierre how do you like it there in Clemson? Also what were your scores/GPA when you applied?

Most out of state public universities do not give good financial aid. Why not throw in some private schools or some SUNY’s? Siena is in NY and has a nice campus and are known to meet financial need.

I am not a huge fan of any of the SUNY’s. Geneseo smells like cows. Binghampton is cold. Albany is dirty. Cortland is trashy. Stony Brook is Long Island. Must I keep going?

I also really want to get out of New York, say I were not to get Financial Aid from Siena…it’s 36k a year! I would much rather have that going towards a school I actually want to go. Thanks for trying to help though GCmom!!

I’ll throw Clemson onto the list why not, I still have like 5 months to edit this baby

Smith is the business school at Maryland

I had a B average in high school but my SAT score was 2010/2400 (1430/1600). If you want to get into Clemson you should have at least a B+ average to be safe and a SAT of 1150-1310 (out of 1600) or an ACT score of 25-30
