Looking to transfer after freshman year

Hey Guys, I live in New York I will be going to Queens College and thinking about transferring out. I’m enrolled in Queens College’s pre-engineering program(3 years at QC and transfer to Columbia for 2 years, if I can get through the holistic process). Right now, I don’t know if I can stick to the strict guideline for transferring and I don’t know if I want to spend an extra year compared to my friends who went to other colleges.

I plan on majoring in chemical engineering

My stats

  • My HS GPA was 84.71%
  • I only attended clubs that I enjoyed like crochet, automobile, and tabletop club
(nothing leadership related, got rejected from all internship openings I applied for).
-My Sat is 1370, English(630) and Math (740)
    -Sat 2s’ include: math 2(630), physics(630) , chemistry (500)
-Currently working in the Summer Youth Employment Program.
(I will be happy to answer any questions about missing information)
What I would like to know
-How badly would my GPA and lack of extracurriculars affect my chances of transferring to a higher ranked college?
-What else could I do make my application more desirable for colleges?
-How high would my college freshman GPA need to be to overshadow my lackluster high school GPA?
Thank you in advance

https://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/apply/combined-plan describes admission to Columbia as the “2” school. For students entering fall 2019, there is no threshold of guaranteed admission; all admission to transfer to Columbia is competitive (though there are minimum grade/GPA requirements to be eligible to apply). Note that this is based on college record at the “3” school, rather than high school record.

You may want to include less competitive transfer targets, such as SUNY/CUNY schools with your desired major.

Look into Stony Brook and Buffalo, but perhaps more realistic is SUNY Plattsburgh and similar SUNYs.
What’s your budget? Do you know your EFC?

Clarkson is another school to look at.
