Looking to transfer, could use some tips...

Hey guys, this is my first post on CC so I hope I'm in the right area, but I think I am haha.

First off, I'm a first-year freshman at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (small college, around 1700 undergraduates) and I'm majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. SM is what I knew I always wanted to major in, but I've never really been sure where I would try to take it. I didn't have great grades in high school (2.3 GPA) so I chose to stay here in my hometown to try and build up a better resume. After the fall semester I have a 3.075 (is that rounded to a 3.1 or 3.0? haha) so I definitely think I made a good decision.

My question(s) for anybody that could possibly help is, any suggestions as to how I should go about searching for schools with good SM programs? I'm guessing MCLA wouldn't be the best choice because SM is only offered as a concentration, so any suggestions as to any schools with good SM programs I should look into would be great.

I live on the East coast (obviously), so anything up here would be good. I also have family in the Carolina's and Texas (which I've visited and loved) so those are also the major locations I plan to look at. But I'm just a little confused as to how the whole transfer process goes. I know I've got to beat the Transfer Application deadline, but do I just go to my advisor and tell her I want to apply to other colleges? And I know each school has their own requirements for Transfers, but if I was applying for Fall 2011, would my second-semester grades for this year not be regarded? And how would I look in the school's eyes as to having a 2.3 GPA in HS to a 3.1 in college?

Any suggestions or tips or anything is greatly appreciated!

I'm looking to transfer after my freshman year by the way.
