Looking to transfer to 4yr College

Hey guys! I really need your advice. I am at a 2yr college right now and here are my stats:

GPA: 3.46
EC:
-Member of Student Senate
-women studies club
-leadership program on campus
-During the summers while I was in HS, I was a part of CTY (Johns hopkins center for talented youth) for 4 years.

Major: International Relations

I was already looking into AU and GWU. But I want to know what are safety safety schools for me to get into?

Thankss!!

Why not look at Mt. Holyoke (MA) ? All women’s college.

Hows Mt. Holyoke? and do you have any other suggestions?

What is your home state and what can you afford?

MD, well I would have to be on financial aid…since my families contribution = 0. I may take out a loan if no need-based aid is available.

Syracuse and Seton Hall (NJ) might be worth a look too. Best of luck!

Thank you so much :D

Since you need a lot of aid, and you’re a transfer student, then you need to carefully select schools that will give aid. Not many schools give aid to transfer students. Most schools reserve their aid for incoming freshmen.

You cannot borrow a lot. You are limited to $7,500 for each year as a junior and senior. That’s obviously not going to pay for a pricey school that costs $40k - 50k per year. To borrow more, you would require parent co-signers. Since it sounds like you’re low income, your family may not be willing or able to co-sign. Besides, borrowing a lot is not a good idea.

Since you’re in Maryland, what state schools can you go to? Do you have a state school that you could commute to if you had to (if none of the other choices are affordable)?

AU is not going to give you the aid that you need.

Since you are obviously interested in being in the DC area, UMD should certainly be on your list. Does it have a relationship with your 2-year college? Are you going to get your associate’s degree this spring?

UMD does not have my major… :(

What state are you in?

What publics in your state have your major?

The problem with many/most schools is that they don’t give much aid to transfer students and you can’t borrow much.

The OP is from MD and looking for Int’l Relations. The OP would have to take Poly Sci UMD.
