if you got accepted to CAL would you have gone?

did u have tap/tag for Berkley?

You can’t get TAG for Berkeley* and very few CCs offer TAP.

I got into Berkeley but I chose UCLA, whoo. ^-^

@External: Indeed, all the activities go down during summer and winter. I feel you can still get to know people. Which Poli Sci classes are you taking and what professors? My orientation is scheduled for the 16th. Can’t wait :)

@Ciaokarol: Could you give me more information? i.e. What’s your major, minority status, ECs… (and congrats!)

@iZychr: So glad you brought that up! People always say the same thing and I always tell them that we should trust admissions advisors a little bit more. I’m at peace with Cal’s decision and I stand tall in believing that they knew that as someone more focused on Comparative Politics, I would be a better fit at UCLA; Berkeley has a stronger curriculum in American Politics. I can’t think of any other reason to be denied other than that one.

It’s a rec class which doesn’t appear in any transcripts so there’s no tuition involved. I did pay about 70 dollars for it and I do live in L.A. but off-campus housing wise… I just signed a lease for an apartment across the street from campus for 1600 which I will split with someone else.

@acceptmecal14: Honestly, I don’t really have an answer. My reasons for ever even applying to Cal are strongly personal and not academically related. On the other hand, I’ve been wanting to go to UCLA since I was a freshman in HS. But don’t just go by names or rankings… you really gotta look at the resources the school offer and see how they’ll benefit you. And if you don’t get in to where you wanted to get in, know that maybe it happened that way for a reason.

@Leuzinger2010 (and RheeL3 as well): Berkeley has a TAP program which works differently than the ones with other UC schools. It’s not as formal as the scholars program and it doesn’t guarantee you entry at all (obviously!), but what they do offer you is counseling and help with writing your essay. The contact for it is aileenp@berkeley.edu; she may probably give you better information on it.

Now is it worthy? I’m not sure. It really didn’t help me that much. I filled out a form after I met with a counselor, turned it in and got a letter back. Then I needed to send an unofficial copy of my transcripts. This ended up giving emails every now and then with some info but it wasn’t as valuable as I expected. But you might think differently.

@matchcutto
Well, you had the GPA and the ECs, so I really wonder. Some people get into non-competitive L&S majors with just 3.4s and with no ECs.

Not a perfect fit perhaps?

How many years were you in CC?

@iZychr: Yep, just that, not a perfect fit. Two years… I don’t doubt my academic accomplishments one bit. All in all (and now that the UCLA schedule came out), I am very happy with the way things work out- the classes sound far more interesting to me than the ones at Berkeley… not to say that Cal is also an amazing school in a really nice part of California.

I am taking Political Science 2 and 7 with Professor E. Gonzalez. I will actually be more focused with American Politics, so I am definitely excited about gaining my education from Cal. As for UCLA, which is a great educational institution, I do wish you the best of luck with Comparative Politics there!

@External: Oh cool, I took both with Berman. Yes, be excited! Cal will definitely be good for you. Thanks, I’m excited.

Yes, I got admitted to the UCLA Honors Collegium! A high GPA does pay off sometimes :)

Old post, sorry, but I am looking to transfer to UCLA after 2 years of Community College and have a few questions.
Did you have any issues picking the right classes at CC that were UC (and CSU since you applied) transferable? Did you figure all of this out on your own? I’m obviously not going to CC for another year, i’m a senior in HS, but I have been very stressed out thinking about what my exact schedule is going to be. I also am worried about not scoring a high enough GPA for UCLA. They’re my dream school here!
Also, please do tell how things are going in UCLA since the school semester has started for you.
