We attended the Spring Premiere last year and fell in love with the campus.
We are from Orange County California and we just found out our daughter was accepted into pre-business! I know the visiting hours are sort of strict but what are they for boys in girls dorms, and do the same hours apply for girls in other girls dorms/rooms?
Where do the kids hang out together after visiting hours, or do they?
My daughter is not an honors student and I don’t think she wants to live in the Living Learning Dorms, so what is the best dorm for a female freshman? I prefer she have a roommate and having a sink in the room would be nice if that exists.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Hi and congrats!
I’m currently a student at Baylor and would say your best options are either Brooks Residential College, North Russell, Texana House, or Kokernot Hall. Brooks offers the most lenient visiting hours of any dorm on campus and is not a traditional living learning center in that there is a large abundance of majors that live there. North Russell has a lot of fantastic diversity and I’ve found the students there some of the most welcoming. There is also a large common area for students to hang out after visiting hours end. I don’t know a ton about Texana house besides it is an all girls dorm that has spacious rooms and is relatively new. It is on the far north side of campus, though, so depending on major/class schedule that may affect desirability. Kokernot has been recently renovated, so if she would like the traditional dorm experience or wants to save on housing costs, that would be a good option. In my opinion, the best dorm options at Baylor if you aren’t specifically wanting a living-learning center are:
- Brooks College
- North Russell (Baylor and Beyond program)
- Brooks Flats (apartment style; very expensive)
- Texana House
- Kokernot Hall
You DO NOT want to be in Collins Hall as a freshman girl. Although there is a good community there like anywhere, visiting hours are strict and the building is rather run down. As long as you’re not in Collins I wouldn’t worry too much about housing because Baylor housing is a cut above most universities in Texas!

My son got accepted from Menifee as a pre business major and there should be an event in Dana Point on April 10 for accepted students. I hear Penland is newly renovated and co-Ed by floor so that is his first choice
Thank you, Stratsshredder97! I have not checked this website in a while, so sorry for the late “thank you” I really appreciate you taking the time to write and give us the “inside scoop” Point taken on Collins! I think my daughter is aiming for Texana. Again, Thank you! Sic’em
Baylorpoly, My daughter was also accepted into pre-busiess. We would be very interested in attending the event at Dana Point but didn’t know about it. If you happen to know who we could contact I’d appreciate it.
Thank you very much!
Contact the admissions counselor Amira Alvarado. Let me know if you need her contact info. It is on the Baylor website. Hope to meet you there! There is also an event in San Diego on the 9th as well.
Hopefully we can get a good carpool going between here and Baylor or at least carpool to catch flights between here and there. Spirit has cheap flights between LAX and Dallas. I hear Southwest may be flying between Long Beach and Dallas as well… Thinking of going to Premier event on the 16th but may be too much of a stretch.
@greggwaters: What high school does your daughter attend?
Yes, we have Amira’s information and will contact her about the event. Didn’t know about Spirit but will look up their prices. So far, there doesn’t seem to be any air options other than American from Dallas into Waco.
We attended the Premier last year and that’s when we fell in love with Baylor. Our daughter attends Orange Lutheran High School.
Hope to see you there. We registered yesterday
Baylor mom here. Daughter is in class of 2020 as well. We are from Placentia. What is the event in April? My daughter is going to be roommates with another bear from Anaheim Hills.
Dana Point on Sunday, April 10th from 4-6. Email the rep Amira for more info. See you there!
We contacted Amira and have the information for April 10th. Looking forward to meeting your family and other incoming Bear families, especially from Orange County.
Very sad to read about another sexual assault at Baylor this time with a fraternity president. The issues with 2 football players and how that was handled not pretty (see ESPN inside the lines from about a month ago). Has me rethinking decision about having son go to Baylor and leaning more toward Cal Baptist. Having the Greek system and major football program creates extra risks for the rest of the student body.
I had both my college age daughters watch The Hunting Grounds. For me a must watch for any college student. The reality is this kind of thing happens on every campus. It will be interesting to see how this is dealt with this time around but it certainly won’t make me rethink Baylor. I have a son as well and when he went to college we had some candid discussions about speaking up and protecting anyone vulnerable to being in this situation. There are bad apples everywhere. The best thing we can do as parents is to educate our kids.
Yes it can happen anywhere but the university in which it happens on has an obligation to protect victims and make sure anyone who would think of sexually assaulting others is not welcome even if they are an All-American football player.
