I know her name because I heard through the grapevine that the LoomisStudent is known as Caroline… not that I’m a stalker or anything.

As the parent of a new sophomore boarding girl, I have been very impressed by the supportive welcome at Loomis Chaffee, the great website with so many PICTURES of all the activities (we see our daughter’s picture at least every week, always smiling which is a relief to see when they first leave home), the availability of the advising staff, and the natural beauty of the large campus. The dorm is very new, spacious, large closets, beautiful full kitchen, clean and inviting. The space really helps (imagine moving in to a double room with winter and summer clothes, sporting equipment, printer, books, computer) - you will need the space! The academics are much more challenging than our local public school honors track “a C+ here is like an A+ at home” from my daughter, so be ready to use the 3 hours a day of supervised study time (one study hall during the day and 8-10 PM every night). The dance program is superb, many involved students and a great 4 year dance curriculum (for the serious as well as the recreational dancers - many, many levels of courses and types of dance and performances offered, they have recruited faculty from some of the best bs around in the last few years for the large performing arts program). Can’t comment on other athletics, though. We are a very happy Pelican family.

2prepmom - thanks for your recent comments on LC. It is a school that I added to my son’s list because of the emphasis on writing and the performing arts. Two areas where he is strong and wants to continue to develop. He had not looked into LC because he didn’t want a large school, but I’ve encouraged him to go with an open mind. The dorms sound like a selling point
We walked around campus and into admissions over the summer and are looking forward to our official tour/interview next week.

I got accepted into loomis but w/o and FA. my family could probably squeeze out the money to pay for HS but we wont have much left for college or my siblings. our town’s public high school is really good, so im wondering if loomis is worth it or if i should just go to public HS.

I saw that you posted this question on another LC thread. This is really a question for your family to answer. Based on what you’ve said, it seems as if sending you to a private school may put a big squeeze on your family’s finances. You’re fortunate to have the option of a good public HS in your town.

I heard their health center no longer welcome any day students. I have a friend who sent his D to LC, a day student. She was sick before spring break and went to health center. The nurse told her, they don’t take any day students. I hope this is a mistake.

I’m not too familiar with the health center at LC (i am a day student) but when i had my concussion this past year, they told me that I did need to see my own doctor because I was a day student. However, I did not see anything wrong with that. I wouldn’t say that they “no longer welcome any day students” though. They can’t deny you Advil or any of those sort of meds, just because you’re a day student. If you are sick during school you just call your parents and have them call the health center and excuse you to go home. (not all the time of course.) I did this Fall Term and that was my only time doing such a thing. The staff had no problems with that. However, my mom did come and pick me up-- I did not have my license at the time. (So I cannot comment on them allowing you to drive home yourself) If your parents work, again I would just have them call and ask if they could allow you to sleep on the beds upstairs, until they can come pick you up. The staff would not refuse permission of this sort.

But most of the time, they may say something like that because they don’t want kids going in and saying they’re sick to get out of a test or sport. Again, for a day student, it’s especially important to get ahold of your parents before going to the health center. I can not comment on boarders, hahah.
