I was wondering how strong the music program at Loomis is. It looks strong on their site, but I want a little more views.

As I said in another LC thread, music and art have excellent reputations at LC. But, my S, a senior, isn't really into either, so I don't have first hand info. Suggest you contact the head of the music department, or make arrangements to meet in person if you're going for an interview.

Thanks for the info.

I'm actually really far out of state so I can't set up an in-person interview, but over the phone might work. Thanks!

Yeah, as the other person said, try to call them. That would definately help when you can't get an interview.

To be honest, I was kind of dissapointed in LC when I interviewed there last week. I was expecting it to be way nicer.

Good luck!

^ BS Hopeful, can you elaborate on your dissappointment a bit more?

I just want to know as much as I can, biased and non-biased.

Well, I live about fairly close to the school, so I went to check it out. The newest classroom facilities were not even that nice. They showed me their new math and science building (the one with the fossil in it) and the classrooms were really not that impressive. Also, the dorms, I was not too impressed with. Plus, I don't know your opinion on this, but I don't like the no dress code schools. The students don't look to good. The Class of 2008 College Matriculation data wasn't overly noteworthy. Some of the athletic facilities were great though.

It's not that it's a bad school, but would it be worth the $40,000? I think not.

I'm not one of the boarding school snobs either. Don't think that! I just wasn't too impressed. That's all!

Still check it out if you can!

HOw are the music facilties?

To bs hopeful I'm sorry you were not impressed with your tour. Although you may have not been so impressed with some of the facilities, I think what matters more is the type of community LC has and the level of education here rather than what some things look like. Also about dress code, Loomis Chaffee does have a dress code, we too believe we should dress nicely. You most likely came on a day where either due to a fundraiser or type of spirit we were not in dress code. Anyways to answer the original question, the music program at Loomis is very strong. Loomis offers all different ranges of courses for all different talents. As far as the facilities goes, our chapel is currently used for music because of its great acoustics. Also a large part of a building is being renovated and added onto, almost all for music. The biggest room will be a new concert hall and off of that will be many practice rooms. There will be enough practice rooms for every course to have thier own room. The courses range from chamber singer to beginning paino and everything in between. Like you said you have already check the website, so all the courses will be listed there and feel free to contact me or anyone else at Loomis with any questions.

^ Thank you very much. :)
