I'm applying to colleges very soon. I would love to go to school in California or New York. I have my final list of schools, the schools I'm applying for in California are, UCLA and UCSB. The schools I'm applying for in New York are, NYU, Syracuse, Boston University, Fordham, UMass Amherst, and the New School. I've visited both cities and all schools, but I didn't really get a feel of the college life and experience, such as parties and fraternities ( I want to join a Frat). Which has the best college experience, as far as parties and fraternities. I've worked hard all throughout high school and intend to still work hard, but have lots of fun. So which has the best frats and parties. Please reply back quickly. This is not the only thing that is shaping my decision but its a factor.

If financial aid is a factor, be aware you won’t get much at UCLA or UCSB because they are public universities and you are out of state. Same goes for the public schools you listed in New York. If you are out of state, the private colleges you applied for in New York may be your best financial option. As for parties, I am not a partier and won’t be when I attend USC this fall and thus can’t help you on that aspect.

BU and UMass Amherst are in New York? I don’t think they got that memo…

Are you talking specifically about the city? Syracuse is a 4 hour drive from NYC. BU & UMass are also about four hours as well, and in another state…

Not to be rude, but the question I asked isn’t exactly being answered. BU and UMASS are close to NY, so I’m considering them apart even though they aren’t.

Frats and parties? Wrong idea at the tough universities. No money for OOS in California.

I am well aware of what I’m asking. I’ve considered many other factors, but I want to have fun in college. I don’t want to be all grown up and realize I never had fun. I’m going to work hard, I’ve always worked hard and I have the merits. So just answer my question, which schools have the better party life and college experience.

Party life in California is what you make it. All of the schools have parties and frats but you have to remember that Greek life is monitored by campus law enforcement and, with recent, tragic events, no one wants to lose their charters, so its kept under control. We are a non-smoking state. Most campuses are green. Most of the kids just want to get their diplomas. My suggestion is that you avoid California schools.

At schools like USC or UCLA or Syracuse, you will get the frat party experience because those schools are pretty closed off from the city. At NYU, you will find more people partying in nightclubs or at private apartments. Greek life isn’t big in NYC schools. Syracuse is in a college town with HUGE Greek Life.

I live in Syracuse and I can tell you that it is definitely a college town. Even if you decide not to join a frat, it’s still one of the biggest party schools in the area. And, as someone else pointed out, people are more likely to stay on campus because the actual city of Syracuse is not really a place to party. Sorry, I just had to plug my hometown
