I will never stop eating breads. I don’t believe it’s necessary, I’ve been able to lose plenty of weight without it. You do have to mix it up, though. Maybe try eating a big, healthy salad before meals to help fill you so you eat less of everything else? I eat my salads without dressing, maybe just a little bit of cheese OR croutons if I I can’t resist, so that helps me manage my portions a lot better. Otherwise I overeat like a beast, too.

In a buffet situation it is also helpful to look at the menu before you go in, decide what you want, and commit to it. Otherwise a lot of people (like me) tend to go in and grab four different things.

One thing a lot of freshman don’t realize is that the freshman fifteen ‘‘myth’’ is there for a reason, although one may not gain the full freshman fifteen it is very common to see them gain a couple of extra unwanted pounds and do nothing about it, and then slowly by the time it’s junior year look very unfit and fat.

excessive drinking, changed eating habits, bad methods of snacking and reduced physical activity all contribute to the excess weight gain. read more at [Causes of the freshman fifteen | Pierre Renard’s life in College and Public Relations](http://www.prcollegepr.com/?p=31)

You can still eat junk food and still be at a normal weight and be healthy. Just don’t do it all the time. If you didn’t eat healthy one day, then eat a salad, etc. another day.

Cut out the sodas. Dring only water and diet soda if you want a soft drink.

Walk, walk, and walk. I have lost so much weight doing this. The trick is you have to do it at a fast pace. Nothing will happen if you walk at a slow pace. You don’t have to go to the gym to lose weight and be healthy.

If you keep eating until you’re full, you will gain weight (but not always). It takes your brain 10 minutes to realize the stomach is full, it doesn’t need to be full everytime.

You can keep eating till your full and eat as many calories as you want, just hit the gym and have some fun, it will be very satisfying when you can lift more weight and see more muscle in the mirror.

Eat slowly. Like Rahoul says, your brain and your stomach are poor communicators so even if your tummy is full, you’re not gonna feel like it is for about 10 minutes. So eat slowly; you’ll probably find yourself not eating as much simply because you aren’t shoveling it in.

Eat slowly, pay attention to portion sizes, and eat healthy foods to compensate for unhealthy things you plan to consume later. For example, if I’m planning to down 5 shots on Saturday, I’ll eat much less that day to compensate (partially so that I can get drunker, but also for the calorie count issue.) I’m the only person I know that has lost weight during my first semester.

“Man, I should watch my weight by not eating any food today. Instead, since it’s nice outside I just might pound an entire case of PBR out on the deck today…”

NO to the diet soda. WATER WATER WATER. Diet soda is killer, because it makes you crave sweet things i.e. carbs. And do this, measure your weight, then have one week of exercise and dieting in order to lose weight. Then the next week, maintain your weight, ie. moderate exercise, moderate diet as in dont overload on chocolate but dont cut out that one slice of pizza either. I find this keeps me sane. Alternate until you get to your ideal weight. Then just do what you do the weeks you maintain weight. And don’t forget to measure your weight every week at the same time, to see what’s working and what’s not. Different things work for different people.

Whaaat? My tolerance is crappy (and by crappy, I mean really, really high.) It takes a lot for me to get drunk. 2 shots, 3 shots? I’d barely be tipsy after an hour. I seriously hate it.
…
And I’ll admit that I really enjoy the sensation of being drunk. It’s fun!

^ Lucky. I wish my tolerance was back up there. I pretty much drank everyday my first year in college. Nowadays I don’t even drink since I’m not into the social scene at my current school. I agree, being drunk is fun. Except when you have to start puking. No fun at all…

Puking… Is it wrong if I say “I wish?” Sometimes I think I’m headed towards alcoholism… I like this a little too much.
ps- Johnson and Wales has a social scene? Huh.

It ain’t alcoholism until you graduate Just remember that. Nah my first year I was at Purdue but JWU actually has a social scene with the clubs… and the fraternities near Brown. That’s why we never have classes on Fridays To help curb our hangovers ;)

In order to lose weight, its about diet and exercise. Cut out the sugars and carbs and try to get on a safe atkins style diet. Exercise is very important, meaning you gotta get out and some some cardio. When you accomplish both on a regular basis, I think eating “junk” food on occasion isn’t too bad.
