Hi, I currently attend a private university in the Boston area. I received a hefty amount of scholarship that is need-based through FAFSA, but I fear that I may lose it because of my academic performance this year. Can anyone enlighten me a bit on this topic?

When you received your finaid package, you also should have received information regarding academic eligibility for continuation of the aid. If the aid was only need based, as long as you continue to be a student in good standing (not flunking out or on probation) and your financial situation is the same, the package should be close to what you got your first year. If, however, there is some academic standard and/or the aid was merit based as well, you probably have a minimum standard GPA to receive continued aid. Call the finaid office and ask. At DD's school, she must maintain a 3.0 GPA for her grants which are need based. Her school does not meet full need so they are able to put any criteria they want on aid...hers is a merit/need grant...so she has to meet both tests...need and GPA. This was in her finaid award last May. Just to be sure, she made an appointment with the finaid officer. I would suggest that you do the same.
