Lost application fee / transfer application

Great tidings, I just got an e-mail saying they never received the check I sent along with my app, and so have not even started to "process your application". What does this mean in terms of being screwed-over? Have they not even started to look at it? Would something like this make my chances even worse, as they're already filling seats for transfer students up?

I'm also really confused as to how it got lost - it was sent along with part 1 of everything, placed in a bright yellow envelope titled "APPLICATION FEE" and sent via express UPS with the rest of the documents. Basically, if they have my app papers, I've no idea why they didn't get the check.

Do I trust them to find it as I described what the envelope looked like and with what it was sent? Was I supposed to send the check directly to financial services? But most importantly, how bad is this for my getting in? I appreciate any input I can get, I'm all alone in this process and feel very confused as to what went wrong and what I'm supposed to do next. Obviously, I'll mail another check first thing tomorrow, but I'm no way near rich enough for that to not give me an achey feeling in the stomach were they do double-process it.

Any help appreacited! Thanks!

Breaking news development: the check I sent them has already been cashed by Wells Fargo. I've tried calling the person that e-mailed me, but no luck hearing back. Grrahhahhh.

If anyone please can just tell me how bad this is in terms of lowering acceptance chances. It'll make me at least a little bit less frustrated.

bump bump.

I am sure your application has been read and the admissions officers have reached a decision. They will probably not release your decision until they retrieve or verify the payment. I wouldn't worry too much about the application fee since that is such an insignificant aspect of the application itself. Update us on your status if you get a chance and good luck! Wait, I just remembered did you ever get a blue paper with your pin number etc. If so that would acknowledge the receipt of your application fee and having a processed file.

No, I have not gotten any acknowledgment of my application being received before the e-mail about the fee missing. No blue paper, no pin. Also, the wording she used was "processed", which sounds very... ominous.

What doubly sucks is that I, for once, contributed nothing to the ensuing screw-up. I went down to the local Wells Fargo office and had it confirmed the check was cashed by Yale almost three weeks ago. Jesus.

So it's all sorted out now. But I still haven't gotten any apology per se or an explanation as to how this will affect my application being reviewed. I don't know about you guys, but my respect for Yale just slipped down a notch, busy times for them or not.
