Lost Federal Work Study

So last year, my freshman year, I had a federal work study job and I lost it this year because I didn’t make enough money. Is there anything I can do to get it back? I already submitted two appeal letters, one in august, another back in December and they were declined both times.

Work study funds are per year or per semester. The funds awarded last year were under the FAFSA filed for that year. If you didn’t earn the money by June, it’s gone. If you want work study for this year, you have to reapply and any award is based on this year’s FAFSA.

My daughter didn’t get a WS job last year and that money is gone. This year she got a new award, and didn’t get a WS job in the fall, so the WS office redistributed that (fall) money. Now she has a WS job but it is limited to the amount awarded for this semester.

If they won’t give you WS this year, just get another job. It’s not worth fighting or worrying about it.

Yes, there are jobs around that aren’t work study. Lots of campus jobs are WS (but not all of them), and things like restaurants and stores often have them.

I agree. Just move on and get another job.

What? Did someone tell you this…or are you guessing?

Work Study has limited funds per campus…and is distributed usually on a first come, first served basis. Are you saying you did not get a WS award for the 2017-2018 academic year? If that’s the case, it could be because awarded funds ran out before your application was submitted.

Honestly, I seriously doubt it’s because you didn’t “make enough money” your freshman year.

I think he’s saying the school canceled it (or gave the money to another student) because he didn’t use it. That did happen to my daughter. If she didn’t find a job by Sept 30, they cancelled her WS for that semester.
