Louisiana applicants = automatic acceptance?

I've read several posts saying that if you're a Louisiana resident/graduating from a HS in Louisiana, and you meet specific test score and GPA requirements, Tulane will automatically accept you.

Does anyone know if this statement is actually valid, and are there any websites that actually say such a thing? I've been really curious.

It’s true. Tulane states this on its website: We offer guaranteed admission to Tulane for any Louisiana resident graduating from a Louisiana high school with the following academic profile. To qualify, a student must apply Early Action or Single Choice Early Action:

•ACT Comprehensive score of 28 or higher (with a 28 or higher on the Writing section) or a combined SAT score of 1870 or higher
•A grade point average of 3.50 or higher (based on an unweighted 4.00 scale) in English, foreign language, science, social science and college preparatory mathematics courses taken while in high school
•Completion, prior to enrollment at Tulane, of a secondary school program consisting of four years of English, three years of social science, three years of lab science, three years of mathematics, and two years of foreign language
•No prior college attendance after high school graduation
•No suspensions or expulsions from school
•Submission of the completed application for admission by November 15th

Thank you! I tried unsuccessfully to find it on the website, haha. That’s a relief.

All the top students in Louisiana use Tulane as their “Backup Plan.” If I don’t get in _, then I’m going to go to Tulane! Or If I can’t afford then I’m going to Tulane.

Tulane is really generous toward Louisiana students when it comes to merit aid and financial aid. Also, you have TOPS (which will take away 5 grand off your tuition bill).

Don’t forget to apply EA in order to be automatically accepted! Good Luck.

I live in Louisiana, and Tulane is my top choice. I’ve wanted to go there since I was 10 or so. I thought I wouldn’t be able to for a long time, until I found out about their merit aid.

My application has been marked as “completed and under review” since last Wednesday, so I’m expecting a decision any day now. I meet all of their Louisiana requirements, though- I’m just eager to see how scholarships go.

Thanks! :)

If you meet all their requirements, then they will probably give you at least a founder’s scholarship.
Like I said, Tulane is extremely generous toward Louisiana students. Also, the 3-5 grand you get from TOPS really helps!

Now that I’ve read about Focus Louisiana, I’m just hoping I get offered a decent scholarship, because I really want to go to Tulane. I’d never use it as a “backup plan,” because it’s so expensive. The public in-state universities are my backup plans. I have a 31 on the ACT (I’m taking the SAT next month in an attempt to beat my ACT score) and a 3.8 UW gpa, and I know TOPS will certainly help. Now all I can do is wait and see. :D
