Hook: Independent Study - research and writing re: My theory on Quantum Physics/Religion/Darwinian Evolution Theory.

My strength is writing, so I believe I will have an excellent essay and great recs.

I just got into Wes myself, and my stats aren't that off from yours, but I had 800 math not verbal. The independent study sounds cool as well-- I didn't have that on my app. You seem like a solid student.

I think you'd get in just fine-- just make sure you do well on your SAT IIs though.

About your National Merit: I'm surprised you don't know if you're Nat'l merit though.. I could have swore I knew if I was before April. But FYI, if you don't know already, most regular National Merits get taken out during the semi-finalist reviewing. You'll know if you're a semi-finalist before you start applying to colleges. You won't know if you make finalist until after you've sent in your applications. If you turn out to be finalist, you can send it in around the time colleges start reviewing apps.

Wes doesn't require a supplement essay, FYI. I also thought it was funny that you said your strength is writing, as you believe you'll have "an excellent essay and great recs." I'm glad that you'll have an excellent essay, but I wouldn't tell the colleges you're applying to about the second part... =P.

But yeah! Tell me about Wesleyan! I'm headed there in 2 weeks for WesFest, but seeing as how you just got back, some new info would be appreciated.

Box, you seem like you'd do very well at Wesleyan. I got in myself, so I'm not an expert, but I would say that your chances seem pretty high. Your Reading and Writing on the SATs were definitely strong, so you should be fine. I hate to ask you this, but what's your current rank in your class? Wesleyan's number of applicants in the top 10% of their class has soared to 81%. If you've hit that mark, you're absolutely fine. My only advice to you is that you make sure that you communicate your personality and interests very well through your essay-- and try to make it creative. Also, consider your major-- are you planning to major in the Humanities? Wesleyan is definitely good for this, but you might also want to consider schools like Vassar, which is phenomenally strong in the practical/ theatrical arts and English areas.
