Hey Lads(and ladies)! I am international applicant to UChicago with a 27 ACT. A perfect math score and 28 on science poor reading score (I slept on the test lol). But I.have been a straight A student on all subjects. A published researcher and learnt from major University professors. And some more moderately good ECs and national level accomplishments. Should I really hope.for something here, or should move on to my nation’s colleges. Oh and I am opting for a physics major.
Can’t you take the test again? If not, your other qualifications(straight A’s, published researcher, perfect math score) are intriguing enough in my opinion that an application is warranted. You can help your case greatly with good references and essays. Good luck to you.

Actually, I am really into some backup colleges for which I must take tests and prepare for them. So, I cannot retake unfortunately. I have good teacher recs and an external recommendation from a National University of my country. But, won’t they reject my application in the preliminary stage itself?
I take it by your question that you will be applying the next cycle and by preliminary stage you mean the early action phase? If the preceeding is correct the answer unfortunately is that I don’t know. The overall ACT is way below the normal minimum. My gut says that because of your other strengths your application will be interesting to the admissions committee, but whether that will result in an acceptance or deferral, I can’t say. It depends on a lot of other factors such as how many others apply who are like you but sightly better on paper. In any event best of luck to you. I have a hunch you will be very successful no matter what you do.

By preliminary stage, I meant the way admission officers evaluate applications. Don’t they first sort out low ACT/SAT applicants? & then go to the better fraction? @kaukauna
TheArchangel: I don’t think they will automatically screen your application without looking at all the factors. As I’ve hinted above, my hunch is that your app will get a close look.

Chicago is need aware for internationals, so your chances will be lower if you apply for financial aids.
