low gpa accepted to ivies?

suze, i think James's point was that he never mentioned SAT score, but you told him he had no idea what he was he talking about. and then you tried to prove this with SAT info...

See post 16.

post 16 came after you attacked James in post 15. he was saying have a few things in combination, ECs and test scores...

and for the record, low gpa plus high test scores does not always equal underachiever.

Sorry, I meant post 14 and stand by that he misinforming too may posters not to comment.

I think these situations are really case by case.

As a student at one of the top high schools in the Country, she has access to a small army of the best college counselors known to man.

As usual, she is correct here. SAT scores do not make up for a low GPA at ivy league schools. I interview for Harvard, have for over 20 years, and never see the low GPA/high SAT kids slip in. ever.

When you guys say "low", what exactly do you mean?

kirmum, i only said that low gpa/high test scores does not always equal underachiever. i never mentioned that they could get into an ivy league school... but then again, your comment may not have been directed towards me.

it matters in the context

low gpa due to bad freshmen year + good sats does not equal underachiever.

low gpa due to continued B's through high school + good sat's sometimes equals underachiever

hello_motto, the op said a 3.5 or a 3.6 unweighted.

kirmum - when you say low gpa what range would that be in? 3.5?

Kirmum, never? Never? I guess low GPA/low SAT's are worse...3.6/3.7 UW(one particularly bad year)/most rigorous courseload/very low 700's plus even one or two below 700. Would that be thrown in the "never" case?

I'd trust the adcoms over a misinformed high school student (Suze) anytime. I never said SAT makes up for low GPA. My point was that is the student has a low gpa, he better have a decent rank along with good test scores to prove he is capable academically.
