Low GPA but Good SAT Score- Is it possible to get in Hopkins or Washu?

Hey guys so I’m kinda new to forums but I’m hoping I can get some feedback on my chances of getting in schools.

I’m currently an international school student attending an IB school. I’m a diploma student taking 4 HL courses. My predicted score is pretty low around low thirty something.

My GPA unweighted is currently around 3.97 out of 4.33. The thing about my GPA is that it dropped around junior year and senior year due to some personal social issues which caused me to be less hardworking, motivated…etc. So I’ve been having a mixture of Bs and As in my junior + senior year.

My SAT score is 2200
My Subject scores are Math: 770 Chemistry: 730 Biology: 700
I took the subjects again so I’m hoping I got better scores

My extracurriculars include:

Model UN: Four years
President of a service club at our school which has raised over 1000US
Leading a leadership conference thing
A few minor awards for writing and math
4 years of team basketball
Service: 100+ hours
Research: At a bio lab for hundred of hours, submitted one research to a conference and had one published

So what are my chances of getting into Duke, Hopkins, Washington U in St. Louis, Notre Dame and Rice?

anyone?

Wait what, how is a 3.97 GPA low?

3.97w* in an IB program is likely to be roughly 3uw if Ib=+1, which the low 30s score confirms.
Open can you explain how IB classes are weighted?

  • op mentions Bs. A 3.97uw means no B, no B+, one A-.
A projected score in the low 30s makes all five universities reaches, but wash u is known to like high scorers, especially if they’re full pay and/or have demonstrated interest…

To chance yourself, you google the Common Data Set for each school, scroll down to section C, and check the stats of the admitted students and compare them to your own stats. That’s the best data you are going to get. If you are not in the school’s ‘sweet spot’ on any dimension, you need some off-setting strength. So, your GPA is a bit on the lowish side for a particular school? What’s your off-setting strength? Why should they overlook it? Published research in a reputable journal and presentation at a conference while still in high school, might be the answer as that is very impressive assuming you are 1st or 2d author and a have strong letter of rec from the prof with whom you are working.

But don’t forget your matches and your safety. The schools on your list are all very selective.

@MYOS1634 Oh I see. Thanks for the clarification. I also misread his GPA. I thought it was 3.97 UW, 4.33 W, but it was actually 3.97 out of 4.33.
