Hi, I am an International student, but I came to America in my junior year. My junior year grades are great but my first semester senior grades are bad. I have one b, 2 possible C's, and 3 A's. The possible C's are in AP Calculus BC and AP Physics B. The C's are due to the fact that I was sick for the first 3/4 of the first quarter of my senior year. I missed like 4 weeks of school. on the bright side, I have a 36 on my ACT and a 800 on SAT 2 US History, 780 Math 2 and 800 SAT Biology M. MY E/C are great, well in my home country I participated in an International Forensics Tournament and got 3rd place and also won medals and accolades in both tennis and netball.( I was the best State Netball Player.) In the US, I participated in the Districts Law Mock Trial and won 2nd place. For Community service, in my home country, I did a lot, approximately, 460 Hours, and over here, I did about 120 hours. I also earned excellent ratings in the Regional Music Performance Assessment for piano. I have great teacher and counselor recs and my essay is about an aspect of my culture in Malaysia. (I think it is great) for my Common App essay, it is about me explaining my experience during the 2004 Tsunami. Please do tell me whether I have any chance at all going to Yale. Pls be honest. Thank you!!!

Someone… anyone Pls do reply!!! I really need feedback ASAP…

well i pretty sure the admissions will understand if you explain to them your background and your situation good luck:)

Well, What if they do not get my situation? That means I am doomed.

ok i am pretty sure that admissions officers know that students aren’t perfect and it seems you worked hard and now it just depends on the admissions officer
good luck and don’t worry

Fine, so now I have to depend on the fate of an admissions officer. I feel like my whole life is balancing on that thin thread

i know what you mean, but as long you mentioned it in your application it should be ok

Yeah I did mention it. Well I hope what you are saying is true. Though I have a feeling that I might not get accepted. Quick question, does it help that I am an International Student

i dont if it helps or not but it seems like you essay talks about your experience as an international student so it should ok
please chance me

Tip: format your post differently. It’s overwhelming and hard to sort through. In fact, I didn’t even read it. I think that might be why you haven’t gotten more replies. In the future, break the stats down and save the explanations for one or two sentences at the end.

Good luck. Write some good essays.

I disagree with some others, senior year first semester grades are vitally important and can kill your app. However, on the mid year report your counselor has a space for comments and can mention your illness affecting your grades. I suggest you do this, I had my counselor mention the fact that I couldn’t take Calculus BC because of a scheduling conflict so at worst it can’t hurt you.

What you do not want to happen is that you get rejected and then you wonder if it was because of some stupid illness.

Hi there, this is just a shorter version of what I said above, so that it is not too confusing. Sorry for the Confusing paragraph above. I apologize for that. Pls do read this and reply ASAP.

my GPA (Unwieghted) is relatively low: 3.5/4.0

Here are my STATS
SAT: 1490
SAT Subject Test: USH/bio/Math2 = 800/800/780
ACT: 36
Junior year GPA: 3.8/4.0
Freshman/Sophomore GPA: Not sure But I guess around 3.7
Senior GPA: 3.4-3.5
Senior Course Load: AP Gov/Spansih 2H/AP Bio/AP Physics B/AP Calculus BC/AP English Lit = A/A/A+/B or C+/B or C+/B
E/C: International Forensics Tournament/ Excellent Rating at Music assessment for piano/ State Netball Player/ 2nd in Law Mock Trial (11)
Community service: Unicef Volunteer (summer) about 75+ Hours/ Cleveland Clinic volunteer(75+ Hours)/ Home for the special Kids (200+)/ Tutor Rural Malaysian Kids ( 309h)/Other school Volunteer services
Ethnicity: Malaysian nationality but race: Ceylonese ( Sri lankan)

Essay: I think it is good. Talked about my culture and also a small cultural revolution in my country that shaped my perspective.
RECs: Teacher and counselor RECs are great.

So the discrepancy in my transcript i.e. the possible C is due to me being sick most of the first quarter of my senior year (bumpp)

I was just wondering what are my chances at Yale university. Pls do be honest. I really want to hear from different people what my chances are. Thank you

So if my counselor mentions that I was sick and ill than how would the adcom view me than, with my other grades, test scores, E/C Community Service etc. ?

You seem to have some strong SAT II scores. As someone who is battling a less than stellar GPA, I can empathize. There’s no way to know whether Yale will admit you or not, but I would definitely have your counselor explain it in your recommendation. Good luck! And if you’re denied a place at Yale, it’s OK. Tons of interesting and successful people are.

i think you have a chance, everything about you is great. just make your councelor explain your senior grades, you should also mention the fact that youve got good grades junior year despite moving to another country.

Hi, can some more people pls chance me!!! I really need to know because then I would have to negotiate with my teacher and counselor. Thank you and I appreciate all the other post. Thanks guys!!!

Hi, Can someone or anyone pls chance me. I need more views and comments. Pls do help me!!! Thank you
