Hello! I’m planning to apply to Temple University for the college of liberal arts. I have had a significant amount of health problems and I want to know my chances.
I’m at around a 3.3/3.4ish (i’ll be graduating with this) but my GPA is around a 3.1. For senior year, I have a 4.28 with honors and dual enrollment classes. For junior year, I had around a 2.8 with honors and ap classes but I was very sick. I wasn’t in school for most of the year, and I had many hospital visits. Same with my Sophomore year, I had around a 3.0, because of the same issues. I know my GPA isn’t great, but my senior year is the one year of high school where I am actually healthy and able to show off my academic potential.
I was really sick. I showed up to school approximately twice a week for a majority of the school year.
I got a D in pre calculus junior year (was very sick, teacher could not catch me up). But I aced geometry, and I am acing an Honors Computer Science course right now.
On my first SAT during junior year I got an 1840. I am taking them again on Oct 3rd & I expect around a 2000. I will be taking acts, right now my practice test score is around a 31-32, I might be able to bring it up to a 33 maybe 34 but i’m just going to say 32 for now.
I’m also applying to RU and TCNJ, but as an in state student I’m not necessarily concerned about these schools.
Extracurriculars:
Girl Scouts for 12 years- pursuing gold award
Dance for 10 years
A lot of community service hours
Model UN
Volunteer at hospital
yeah, you should get admitted. by all means, make Temple aware of in writing the health issues, how you persevered through them, and how you are doing this year now that you are feeling better. i saw you contacted a nursing student in another thread, Given competitiveness of that program, getting in there could be issue. however, i would be surprised if you did not get into liberal arts major so long as you make Temple aware of how the health issues affected your statistics.
Glad you are feeling better and hope to see a post in near future that you will part of the entering class of 16!!! thank you also for the post on the nursing program. Very very helpful to all considering that major.
that is not considering a high ACT score. If you do indeed get better than a 30 ACT temple and the others should be
no problem. Keep in mind a ACT score of 33-34 is a very big assumption on your part. It does not jive with your sat score. Heck a ACT of 31 or higher is very good and certainly a 34 is extremely good, like ivy league good so i wish you
well but if you got a 34 you should most definetly broaden your choices.
@ctl987 yes I was interested in nursing at first but I had a change in career interest and I realized nursing programs are super competitive so I’m glad I changed career interests. I’m currently thinking of either business or liberal arts, I hope I’m still fine with business. But thank you very much you have been extremely helpful yourself
Best of luck to you dear and hope the upcoming testing goes great! love how you persevered through hard times. wish they had never happened but the life skills you have learned going through that and fighting and succeeding on this side of such challenges can take you much farther than you may realize now. again, all the best!
